This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.

We are currently looking for Settlement Worker in the Schools to join our team of committed professionals. This Full-Time position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's Elm location in Sudbury.

Under the leadership of the Program Supervisor, the Settlement Worker in the Schools provides assistance to newcomer students and their families as they integrate into the school system and the community. The Settlement Worker in the Schools will work from a "home base" within the local school boards to deliver settlement support throughout the region and is also responsible for providing referrals and community resources, individual and group information sessions and workshops.

START DATE: January 5th, 2026

LOCATION: Elm Street, Sudbury

RATE OF PAY: $ 49,455.04

HOURS: 40 hours per week

Major Responsibilities

  • Conduct needs assessments and assist students and their families through solution focused counselling
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals to community services and agencies
  • Address identified service gaps and focus on the settlement needs of immigrant students and their families within the school system
  • Support students and their families in all stages of integrating into the school system and settlement into the community
  • Answer general inquiries on the telephone and in person
  • Meet with students, their families and school faculty as required
  • Research, create, coordinate, and deliver workshops on newcomer related topics
  • Facilitate workshops and information sessions on newcomer related topics to school faculty

Qualifications

  • College diploma or University degree in Social Services, or related field
  • Minimum of one (1) year of settlement experience or two (2) years of experience in personal counselling or community development
  • Community development and public speaking skills
  • Solid knowledge of community resources
  • Knowledge of the Ministry of Education and the Education Act an asset
  • Superior presentation/facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Bilingual - french) / other language communication skills an asset)
  • Ability to research and develop workshops and community presentations
  • Above average ability to communicate with newcomer youth and their families as well as deal with any issues that they may have
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle is required
