About Haven:
Haven is a registered Canadian charity. Using our technology platform, , we connect a network of 6,000 refugees and Canadians. We want to build the best way for refugees who need help to connect with Canadians who can help.
Our flagship program is the Haven Language Program. Refugees, refugee claimants, and newcomers fleeing conflict now in Canada get the language help they need. This includes:
- Language classes with professional teachers.
- Conversation practice with Canadian volunteers.
- Individualized homework tailored by teachers.
All work is done online. Through these three aspects of the program, we provide instruction, immersion, and individual practice – perfect for those learning.
Classes include both private and small-group sessions, with small-group sessions including a maximum of four students who are the same level. Instruction is focused on improving speaking and listening, centred on the CLB framework.
The program is offered using a flexible schedule, meaning we also offer classes on weekday evenings and weekends. The program is currently only available in English, but we are looking to expand to French as soon as our resources allow.
