Job description:

Scholars of West Vancouver is seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Lead Teacher who has experience working with students between Kindergarten and Grade 12. As the Lead Teacher, you will act as the main liaison between classroom operations and the management team, while conducting exceptional lessons with students of various ages and abilities. You will be responsible for preparing the classroom each day for student arrivals, assisting with assessments, and keeping spaces tidy and organized for optimal learning. As a tutor and mentor with Scholars Education, you will be responsible for providing superior individualized support to students at all levels of their learning journey. Classes work in groups as large as three students, and the tutor is responsible for ensuring a positive and encouraging learning atmosphere for students to thrive in. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students in reading, writing, and math in English. (Most curriculum materials are provided.)
  • Prepare student materials for lessons and help maintain a tidy classroom.
  • Assist with assessments and student report cards.
  • Provide exceptional leadership and guidance for other tutors and staff members.
  • Support students in learning fundamental study habits to boost organization, time management, and independence.
  • Support students in building confidence and positive self-esteem to encourage motivation and resiliency.
  • Establish rapport with each student and execute positive and inclusive lessons. This includes the ability to incorporate engaging materials and activities to cater to individual learning styles.
  • Accurately submit scores and feedback regarding student progress for each lesson.
  • Contribute to a welcoming, questions-based learning environment in a polished and professional manner.
  • Keep work stations and learning areas tidy and organized to maximize the flow of students.
  • Attend bi-annual training workshops.
  • This is an in-person position.

Applicant Requirements:

  • University Degree, or must be currently enrolled in a university-level program with excellent standing.
  • BC/Canadian Teaching Certification would be an asset.
  • Candidates in a Bachelor of Education program or a university designation are also encouraged to apply.
  • Early Childhood Education experience would be an asset.
  • TESOL Certification would be an asset.
  • Experience working with special needs students that require extra learning supports would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in English is a must.
  • Previous experience working with children/students in a teaching or tutoring environment is required.
  • Proven ability to competently and confidently facilitate student sessions in the English language.
  • Must be able to teach English foundations in reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
  • A passion for education and helping students reach their full potential.
  • Elevated and professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to teach groups of up to 3 students with exceptional classroom management skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently.

**Must be available for in-person lessons a minimum of four days during the following hours.

Monday - Thursday between 3:00 - 8:00 pm

and

Saturday between 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

** Priority will be given to those who can demonstrate the ability to teach multiple subjects (language, math, science) and those who have extended availability. **
