Wastewater Process Manager

Position Summary
Reporting to the Freshwater Production Manager, the Wastewater Process Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the De-nitrification System (DNS) within recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). This position ensures optimal water quality, fish health, and full compliance with environmental standards. The role involves coordinating waste management activities, supervising staff, and collaborating with other departments to maintain optimal conditions for aquatic life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the daily operations at wastewater treatment (de-nitrification system) facility.
- Monitor and control computerized systems and equipment to regulate the flow and treatment of wastewater through settling, aeration, and digestion processes.
- Collect, test, and analyze water and wastewater samples to ensure that treatment processes meet quality and regulatory standards.
- Lead and supervise a team of operators, providing guidance and ensuring staff are trained on facility equipment and processes.
- Conduct regular inspections of facility equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and assist maintenance personnel in repairs and system modifications.
- Maintain facility logs and reports, and ensure all operations comply with relevant regulations and standards.
- Troubleshoot and address issues that arise in the facilities processes, making adjustments to equipment and systems as needed.
- Collaborate with production personnel to determine the best approach for wastewater management activities and related operations.
- Apply knowledge of water chemistry relevant to salmonid aquaculture and wastewater treatment.
- Ensure strict adherence to and compliance with all Grieg Seafood policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and company biosecurity protocols.
- Understand and follow government regulations and Workplace NL requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Physically fit with the ability to lift to 50 lbs / 22 kg.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to multi-task effectively.
- Capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient with computers and related software applications.
- Possesses a valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent).
Training, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Environmental Science, Aquaculture, Chemistry, Wastewater or a related discipline.
- Proven supervisory experience in an operational or technical environment.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in aquaculture water treatment, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), or wastewater management.
- Practical experience with biological and mechanical filtration systems and a strong understanding of nitrogen cycle processes.
Work Schedule
Monday-Friday. 40 hours per week.
