Who we are looking for?
We have a current need for Technical Director – Civil Engineering Conveyance/Site servicing (Water Business) for the Ontario Engineering Design Organization. We are looking for an energetic, creative, motivated senior civil engineer with design management experience to work on challenging design projects and to support our dynamic and growing water business.
The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of leading engineering teams in Linear Water and Water/Wastewater treatment projects for the municipal and industrial sector, backed by a demonstrated ability to manage multi-disciplinary teams from concept through detailed design and construction is required. They will also possess project management and business development skills and the ability to interact professionally with public and private sector clients as a technical leader and subject matter expert.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Provide technical leadership to civil engineering teams in execution of major projects while working cooperatively with multidisciplinary design teams in the delivery of design packages and participating in design reviews.
- Provide support to the Water Business groups as needed in Business Development. Be instrumental working with Market leads in growing the water business within Canada.
- Supervisory role in training, mentoring and skills development of the Civil Engineering team.
- Taking on project roles such as Design Manager, Project Manager, Project Civil Discipline Lead leading the civil function of a major project, or project Quality Manager.
- Taking on a Design Discipline Lead role in leading technical development and be an active participant in the Community of Practice.
- Taking on responsibility for monitoring and reporting of project performance, progress and quality on behalf of GHD.
What you will bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- A Professional Engineer registered with Ontario or other jurisdictions.
- Minimum twenty years of experience in a professional engineering consulting environment, with notable project technical leadership and management experience.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion.
- Proven supervisory role in mentoring design team. Provide hand-on technical guidance to engineers and technical staff in delivering ongoing projects.
- Mentor engineers and designers in the development of their consultancy, engineering, and design skills
- Provide guidance and QA/QC on all engineering design, calculations, design briefs and technical reports for masterplans, environmental assessments, and design projects
- Promote corporate participation at technical conferences and provide senior guidance and review for key technical conference papers generation
