Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer – Hospital, the Executive Director is accountable for the effective, efficient, and compliant operation of St. Joseph's Continuing Care Centre's South Bay Road and Lasalle Sites. Operating within the LEADS in a Caring Environment Capabilities Framework, the Executive Director ensures that services and operations are delivered in alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and values; approved performance standards; fiscal parameters; and all applicable federal and provincial legislation, including the Public Hospitals Act.

This role provides strategic, operational, and people leadership across all departments, with a strong focus on patient-centered care, quality, safety, accountability, and collaboration in a unionized healthcare environment.

Key Accountabilities

Leadership and Governance

  • Provide executive leadership consistent with the organization's mission, values, and ethical framework.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate by-laws, sponsor expectations, legislation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the organization to government bodies, Ontario Health, community partners, funders, and the media as required.

Operational and Strategic Management

  • Lead the execution of the organization's strategic and operational plans, ensuring alignment with available resources and performance expectations.
  • Participate in the development and oversight of operating and capital budgets, including facility construction and rehabilitation activities.
  • Ensure effective coordination of all departments to support safe, high-quality, holistic patient care.
  • Oversee the stewardship, security, maintenance, and disposal of physical assets.

Quality, Risk, and Safety

  • Guide the development, implementation, and monitoring of Quality Improvement Plans and organizational quality standards.
  • Lead Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), patient safety, and risk management programs.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and promote a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness and disaster planning, testing, and documentation.

People and Culture

  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and direction to a team of managers, physicians, staff, students, and volunteers.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, engagement, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote positive labour relations and maintain effective working relationships with bargaining agents and workplace partners.
  • Ensure performance standards are applied consistently and that performance issues are addressed fairly and decisively.

Patient and Community Focus

  • Ensure the primacy of the patient in all organizational activities and decisions.
  • Address patient and family concerns and complaints as required.
  • Promote an interdisciplinary, systems-based approach to patient care, education, and research.
  • Represent the organization within the broader healthcare community and maintain collaborative partnerships.

Qualifications

Education and Professional Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree from a program of at least three (3) years' duration,
  • Successful completion of, or enrollment in, a management program with a minimum of 100 hours of instruction.

Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years' experience in a managerial or supervisory role within the health or social services sector.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in a complex, regulated, and unionized environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Public Hospitals Act and related regulations.
  • Proven ability to lead change, manage risk, and drive quality and performance improvement.
