Physician Navigator
We are currently hiring Physician Navigators for our partner hospitals in Brampton and Etobicoke.
As a Physician Navigator (PN), you will work in direct collaboration with an Emergency Department (ED) physician to support their workflow throughout their shift. Your core responsibility is to enhance physician efficiency by managing non-clinical, administrative, and flow-related tasks, enabling them to focus entirely on patient care. Please note that this position does not involve any clinical care.
Responsibilities
- Keep the physician informed of patient locations and overall ED status.
- Assist in moving patients between the waiting area and assessment rooms.
- Retrieve medical histories, medication lists, and previous charts from the EMR.
- Track patients seen by the physician and prompt timely reassessments.
- Print relevant lab and diagnostic imaging results prior to reassessments.
- Organize and prepare necessary supplies for procedures.
- Coordinate referrals and arrange outpatient services as directed.
- Maintain the physician's patient list and manage billing documentation.
- Liaise with nurses, clerks, and Diagnostic Imaging (DI) to ensure timely test completion and optimal flow.
This is a non-clinical support role. Physician Navigators do not provide medical care, make clinical decisions, provide medical advice, or replace physician duties—but rather support the physician in maintaining flow and ensuring a safe, efficient care environment.
Qualifications
Education:
- Pursuing or completed a degree/certification in pre-med, nursing, healthcare administration, or a related discipline.
Experience:
- Prior experience in a healthcare or hospital environment (volunteer or work) is preferred
- Familiarity with anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is an asset
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with professionalism at all times
Availability:
- Must be flexible for evening, overnight and weekend shifts as required
- Must work a minimum of 3 shifts per bi-weekly schedule
- Minimum 1-year commitment
Compensation & Growth
- Starting salary is $18.00 per hour
- Annual performance reviews with opportunities for raises based on performance and feedback
