Description:

The Paralegal will provide essential legal support to the General Counsel and Recovery Alberta Legal team, working closely with lawyers, operational teams, and the Board Office. This role requires strong legal research, drafting, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage complex files and support compliance in a dynamic mental health, addiction and correctional health care environment. Legal Support Draft, format, and prepare contracts, agreements, and other legal documents in support of the Legal team Conduct factual and legal research, gathering relevant information from diverse sources to support counsel. Manage legal files, records, and document production, ensuring accuracy and compliance with privacy and health information legislation. Support compliance with Alberta's Health Information Act, Access to Information Act, Protection of Privacy Act, Mental Health Act, Compassionate Intervention Act, Provincial Health Agencies Act and associated regulations. Assist lawyers in negotiations, due diligence, and risk management processes. Provide clear, concise summaries of rights, obligations, and liabilities to support decision-making. Administrative Support. Executes project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Provides input into the project/program including assisting with the identification and resolution of issues and conflicts related to the project. Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately. Keeps members of the project/program team up to date on the project progress and relevant information. Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of Recovery Alberta Legal policies, procedures and standards. Compiles data and assists in preparation of regular reports to be provided to the General Counsel, as requested.

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree or Paralegal Diploma.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, privacy, and health law. Proven ability to draft and review complex legal documents. Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management and the Board Office. Demonstrated ability to balance business requirements against legal risks to provide practical solutions. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple assignments under significant time pressures while maintaining attention to detail. Commitment to teamwork, collaboration, and advancing Recovery Alberta's mission. Minimum of 5 years related legal experience in private or public sector environments

Health care experience is an asset.
