As Superintendent, you will lead all field operations, driving safety, quality, schedule, and budget performance on this high-profile, multi-million-dollar build. This is a career-defining role for a proven leader who thrives in fast-paced, large-scale commercial environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee daily on-site construction activities for a full ground-up big-box retail store, managing all phases from foundations and structural steel to interior fit-out, MEP systems, and final commissioning.

• Lead, coordinate, and supervise a large team of subcontractors, trades, vendors, and field personnel to ensure work aligns with plans, specifications, codes, and project schedule.

• Develop and maintain detailed 4-week look-ahead schedules updated weekly, update project timelines in collaboration with the Project Manager, and proactively resolve delays or conflicts.

• Enforce rigorous safety protocols in compliance with Alberta OHS regulations, company standards, and client requirements—uncompromising commitment to our zero incidents target, everyone goes home safe everyday

• Conduct regular quality control inspections, manage RFIs/submittals, and ensure punch-list completion meets the high standards expected by a premier global client.

• Coordinate with architects, engineers, inspectors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), and client representatives to facilitate approvals, inspections, and change orders.

• Monitor project costs, control manpower and equipment utilization, and report progress, risks, and variances to senior leadership.

• Foster strong subcontractor relationships while maintaining accountability for performance and adherence to contractual obligations.

• Lead daily/weekly site meetings, toolbox talks, and client walkthroughs to keep all stakeholders aligned.

Qualifications & Experience

• Minimum 8–10+ years of progressive experience as a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent in commercial construction, with at least 5 years leading ground-up projects.

• Proven track record on big-box retail, grocery, or large-format commercial developments (preferred: experience with major national/international retailers, high-volume stores, or similar fast-track projects).

• Strong knowledge of Alberta Building Code, OHS regulations, and construction best practices for retail environments (e.g., structural, MEP coordination, interior finishes, site logistics in urban/suburban settings).

• Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget in challenging conditions (e.g., weather, supply chain, live-adjacent sites).

• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; able to motivate teams and manage conflicts effectively.

• Proficiency with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, or similar).

• Valid Alberta driver's license, First Aid/CPR certification, and willingness to obtain client-specific safety training.

• Post-secondary education in construction management, civil engineering, or related field is an asset (equivalent experience considered).
