Hydrotechnical Engineer

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Senior Hydrotechnical Tailings Engineer to join our Tailings & Mine Closure Management team based in Montreal.

This opportunity is ideal for a highly motivated professional with a strong technical background in hydrotechnical and water management engineering. The successful candidate will support the growth and development of a multidisciplinary practice focused on tailings, closure, and mine waste management, working alongside specialists in geotechnical, hydrotechnical, geoscience, and process engineering.

What You'll Be Doing

• Providing technical expertise on a variety of water management tasks, including: baseline hydrology, water balance studies, water management plans, hydraulic modelling and design, dam break and flood inundation studies, sediment and erosion control plans, and water management support during operations and closure.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated tailings, mine waste, and mine water management solutions—covering site selection, tailings dewatering technologies, subsurface investigations, laboratory testing programs, transport and conveyance studies, embankment design, deposition modelling, capping and closure studies, and surface water management.
• Preparing and reviewing technical documentation such as reports, specifications, and design basis memorandums, as well as coordinating with designers to develop engineering drawings.
• Providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, designers, and technicians while maintaining quality standards across all deliverables.
• Supporting project and client meetings, including business development efforts and proposal preparation for new opportunities.
• Actively participating in and promoting health, safety, and environmental policies and standards in all work activities.

What You'll Need to Be Successful

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources Engineering (post-graduate degree preferred).
• 10+ years of experience in engineering consulting, with a focus on hydrological studies and hydraulic design (mining industry experience an asset).
• Eligibility for or possession of a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada (OIQ preferred).
• Solid understanding of CDA and MAC tailings and mine waste design and operation guidelines.
• Proven experience in hydrological analysis, site water balance studies, hydraulic design for water conveyance and storage facilities, and dam break and inundation studies.
• Proficiency with relevant software such as GoldSim, PCSWMM, FLO-2D, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, CulvertMaster, AutoCAD, and GIS.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an international, multidisciplinary team environment with a strong client focus.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project).
• Willingness to travel within North America (Canada, USA, and Mexico) to support regional operations.
• Possession of a valid passport and driver's license from a Canadian province.
