About the Opportunity

The Kimberley Alpine Team (KAT) is seeking a skilled and motivated Freestyle Head Coach to lead our Freestyle Ski Program. This leadership role is responsible for athlete development, training program execution, competition preparation, and coaching team oversight. The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise in freestyle skiing, a commitment to safe and inclusive sport, and the ability to inspire athletes of all levels to reach their full potential.

You will collaborate closely with the Board of Directors and Program Administrator to ensure alignment with Freestyle BC standards, the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, and the club's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Athlete Development & Coaching
  • Develop and deliver structured on-snow training sessions aligned with seasonal goals and LTAD principles.
  • Provide individualized technical coaching, video analysis, and performance feedback to athletes.
  • Plan training sessions that incorporate technical skills, physical conditioning, and mental preparation.
  • Supervise athlete safety and adjust training approaches based on weather, conditions, and athlete needs.
  • Track athlete progress and maintain accurate development records.
  • Attend competitions to provide course inspection, strategy, warm-up guidance, and post-event feedback.
Competition Planning & Support
  • Plan athlete participation in local, regional, and provincial freestyle competitions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely athlete registration in alignment with Freestyle BC standards.
  • Coordinate travel logistics for away events in collaboration with the Program Administrator.
  • Analyze event performance to guide ongoing athlete improvement plans.
Leadership & Coaching Team Management
  • Recruit, onboard, and supervise assistant coaches within the Freestyle division.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development through feedback, modeling, and training support.
  • Manage weekly timesheet collection and submission for coaching staff.
  • Conduct end-of-season or as-needed performance evaluations and address performance concerns in consultation with the Board.
Administration & Compliance
  • Ensure all athletes meet eligibility requirements under Freestyle BC regulations.
  • Maintain coaching certifications and ensure compliance with club and provincial standards.
  • Prepare program updates, administrative reports, and roster management documentation.
  • Support event registration, compliance reporting, and operational record-keeping.
Equipment & Facility Coordination
  • Manage freestyle-specific equipment including radios and training aids.
  • Coordinate and maintain training space usage with resorts or ski hills and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Communication & Community Engagement
  • Share weekly updates with athletes and families regarding schedules, priorities, and competition plans.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to athlete and parent inquiries.
  • Collaborate with the Program Administrator and Board to align activities with club objectives.
  • Represent the organization at competitions, events, and community activities.
  • May represent the club at Freestyle BC, Canada Freestyle, RCR and the KAT board of directors.


Requirements Qualifications & Experience
  • Coaching certification appropriate to Freestyle programs.
  • Current SafeSport certification (or ability to obtain prior to start).
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Experience with coaching youth or junior athletes in a competitive sport environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and deliver skill-appropriate training plans.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills.
