Position Summary

As a Traffic Technician at Net Engineering Inc, you will be essential in maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow on heavy civil construction sites, road projects, utility installations, grading and paving works. This hands-on role involves preparing Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs) in the office and implementing, monitoring, and adjusting traffic control devices in the field. Your efforts will help protect workers, the public, and the progress of the projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and update Temporary Traffic Control Plans (TTCPs) and traffic layouts.
  • Work with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and City of Calgary officials to finalize traffic control plans.
  • Set up and take down temporary traffic control devices like signs, cones, and barricades.
  • Monitor on-site traffic and adjust plans as needed to ensure safety and project progress.
  • Help with lane closures, detours, and traffic routing at different sites.
  • Inspect sites to ensure they follow plans and local rules.
  • Share updates and safety concerns with crews, contractors, and the public.
  • Report incidents and keep accurate records of implementations and inspections.

Safety & Compliance Focus

  • Ensure all work zones and installations comply with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements, City of Calgary guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Foster LBCO's strong safety culture by proactively identifying hazards and implementing corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (post-secondary in civil engineering, construction, or related field preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in traffic control, construction flagging, or heavy civil/roadwork preferred
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License (clean abstract required)
  • Ability to read and interpret traffic plans, blueprints, and accommodation drawings
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, with physical demands including lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for long periods, and occasional after-hours/weekend shifts

Preferred Skills & Certifications

  • Traffic Control Person (TCP) / Alberta Flagger certification
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software for traffic layouts
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License

Work Environment & Benefits
