Division: Transportation and ConstructionDepartment: TransportationTerm: 1 Permanent Full Time position available.Closing Date: 12/05/2025Labour Group: CUPE 859Posting: 4770Job SummaryUnder the supervision of the Operations Superintendent, this position supervises sign shop crews for sign making, sign installation, maintenance, detouring and roadway painting duties.Duties & ResponsibilitiesSupervises, trains, directs, and evaluates staff engaged in the Sign Shop operations on a daily basis.Ensures work activities of crews are performed in accordance with approved standards, service level commitments and procedures to ensure quality of work, and the safety of crews and the public.Ensures that work activities are performed in accordance with the Corporate Safety Policy and Provincial OH&S Regulations. Investigates health & safety incidents in a timely manner with follow up and correct action.Monitors and communicates work progress daily, while maintaining comprehensive records.Assists with the development and maintenance of detailed annual work plans, operational procedures, and training programs.Ensures crews complete required forms and reports in a timely and accurate manner.Documents and prepares construction sign making quotes and rental invoices in a timely and accurate manner.Enforces all Civic and Division policies and procedures with the staff. Examples include safety, hours of work and respectful workplace policies.Investigates and records actions taken in response to emerging issues on streets that pertain to traffic detours, sign installation & maintenance and line and crosswalk painting that are impacting the safety and mobility of residents.Prepares weekly schedules based on work requirements and available resources.Performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsEducation Training and Experience Requirements:Grade 12 education.Five years of City operations experience including 3 years supervisory experience in a municipal operation.3 years sign shop experience or a demonstrated ability to direct operations with respect to traffic detours, sign manufacturing and installation and painting of roads.Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver's Licence.Current driver's abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.Successful completion of, or ability to complete successfully, recognized supervisory courses.Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Considerable knowledge of current methods, technical specifications, materials, equipment, and workpractices related to all facets of traffic detours, signing and painting.Knowledge of related corporate safety policies and regulations, bylaws, standards, and specifications.Knowledge in the use of equipment, materials and techniques used in the installation and maintenance of traffic control devices.Knowledge of practices and principles involved in the use of traffic control devices.Demonstrated ability to learn and apply the technical skills required for this position.Ability to read and comprehend engineering drawings and temporary traffic control plans as they relate to sign, detour, pavement marking, and streetscaping installations.Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of staff as well as coach crew members to enhance their work performance, resolve conflicts and contribute to a positive workplace culture.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors, and civic employees.Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.Physical ability to perform the assigned duties.Demonstrated leadership skills.Skill in the care and use of office and field equipment.Knowledge and experience with ERP systems and Microsoft 365 apps.Additional RequirementsShift work and weekend work are involved.Weekly Hours: 40Salary Range: $36.29 CAD per hour (2023 rates)Diversity, Equity and InclusionThe City of Saskatoon offers an inclusive workplace that embraces diverse backgrounds.
