Job description
The Camp Counselor's prime responsibilities are
ensure campers are always safe.
positively lead and oversee campers' activities in a cooperative and collaborative within a team structure to create a fun and inclusive camp experience.
We are looking for energetic camp counselors for Creator Camp who enjoying teaching kids. Creator Camp is a hands-on summer camp for kids ages 5-7 and 8-13 that teaches creative digital skills like animation, filmmaking, music production, and game design at an age-appropriate level. It's designed to shift kids' relationship with technology from passive screen time to active content creation. The Camp Counselor's responsibility is to ensure campers are always safe but having fun using a solid mix of practical, interpersonal, and safety-focused skills. You will positively lead and oversee campers' activities using your organizational, group management, time management, and communication skills. Creator Camp is a specialty camp with a sole focus on a variety of digital media arts. Creator Camp was featured on Shark Tank and is run under license by Creative Kids Place at our locations.
Summary of Role
The role of the Camp Councilor is to directly supervise, safeguard, and support your camper group during their stay with us. This will require a lot of personal focus and energy as well as close collaboration with fellow staff and the Team Leader to be successful.
The daily goal of the Camp counselor is to ensure camper safety while fostering a fun and inclusive atmosphere so campers can enjoy their selected activities. Campers should feel safe and welcome as they learn and grow through their activities and interactions with other campers and staff.
Staff should feel valued by the manager, other staff and campers and be supported in their role with training, daily guidance, and by teammates as they serve campers' needs. Counselors should feel comfortable in the activities they lead and try to improve as the camp progresses, but the focus is on the child's overall needs.
Counselors supervise their groups with their selected camp activity, outdoor play activities and on Field Trip outings, which includes bus transportation to the Field trip venue.
Counselors report to a Team Leader /Site Supervisor at their location
Creator Camp Specific Role
While the Lead Instructor focuses on the curriculum and teaching, the Councillor serves as the "connective tissue" that keeps the camp running smoothly. They are the primary hands-on support for both the Lead Instructor and the campers. Their duties generally fall into three categories: Operational Support, Instructional Assistance, and Student Mentorship.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Supervising campers and ensuring their safety in all settings, whether indoors, outdoors, or on field trips. This includes administering first aid to campers as needed and producing accurate incident reports.
Plan and implement camp activities. Daily Preparation of camp materials before the start of the activity, managing the group during the activity, and resetting the materials and the camper space to be neat, clean and safe.
Prepare and deliver camp activities in a manner appropriate to the campers' age group.
Guide the group through the daily schedule, including material preparation, transitioning between core activities, managing the lunch period, and overseeing outside play activities while maintaining a clean area/section, as well as managing Field Trip outings.
Discussing camper participation and concerns with parents and other camp staff members daily as required. The Team Leader can support councilors with parent/guardian conversations.
Daily photography and upload of images of campers that have consented to photography
Assist with Check-In/Check-Out as needed.
Help manage the Lost and Found at the end of each day.
Provide consistent leadership to foster positive group interactions.
Create and nurture a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all campers. Resolve conflicts between children fairly and address behavioral issues as they arise.
Safely supervise and guide a group of children during weekly Field Trip outings, including safe bus loading, travel, unloading, and group movement at the site.
Avoid negative interactions, actions, and words, with fellow staff and the manager to assure a positive camp environment
Follow the Team Leaders directions and work collaboratively within a team structure, both offering and accepting help as needed.
Creator Camp specific Responsibilities
Deliver course content related to your expertise, whether it's digital art, filmmaking, animation, coding, music production, or game design.
Collectively supervise a class of 20-30 students with the help of a Team Leader and other staff.
Actively participate in students' projects; for instance, some students might involve you in their film creations.
Craft personalized 'Thank You' cards for students at the end of camp to inspire their creative journeys.
Prepare the classroom for the next day by organizing and tidying up.
Collaborate in hosting the Creator Camp Oscars Ceremony and present students with their well-earned trophies.
Duties, Qualifications, and Skills
Duties
Should be available for the entire camp period Monday to Friday for assigned hours.
Should be available for an 8 hour shift within the hours of 7:30 am and 6:00 pm
Candidates must be available for the entirety of the employment period. Time off requests will be assessed on a case-by-case situation, based on staffing needs.
Lead a group of kids in one or more camps. Best efforts are made to connect you to the preferred camper age group(s), camper activity (s), and camp location to ensure your success.
Creator Camp Specific Duties
Instructional & Technical Assistance
Support staff are the "first responders" for technical issues in the classroom, allowing the Lead Instructor to keep the lesson moving.
Software Troubleshooting: Helping campers who get "stuck" on a specific step in Roblox Studio, Minecraft, or video editing software.
Project 1-on-1s: Working individually with students who may be falling behind or who need extra help refining their creative ideas.
Asset Preparation: Setting up digital folders, downloading specific textures or music for projects, and ensuring all hardware (laptops, cameras, VR headsets) is charged and ready.
Demonstration Support: Helping the lead instructor during live demonstrations by managing the screen share or passing out physical materials.
Operational & Logistic Duties
Support staff handle the "heavy lifting" of the camp's daily schedule to maintain a professional and safe environment.
Tech Maintenance: Managing "STEM bins," organizing cables, and performing "end-of-day resets" so the lab is clean for the next morning.
Supervision of Breaks: Monitoring students during lunch and outdoor recreation time to ensure safety and digital-detox engagement.
Content Documentation: Often tasked with taking photos and videos of campers' progress to share with parents or for the Friday showcase.
Mentorship & Behavior Management
The support staff often build the closest relationships with the campers, acting as a bridge between the "authority" of the instructor and the kids.
Engagement: Encouraging shy students to participate and helping them find friends within their project groups.
Behavior Intervention: Identifying and de-escalating conflicts or distractions before they require the Lead Instructor's attention.
Digital Citizenship: Modeling and enforcing positive online behavior, such as kindness in game chats and respecting intellectual property.
Qualifications
1 Mandatory paid staff training day hosted by Creative Kids Place on June 13,2026 at Streetsville from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Online Asynchronous training -self guided -between June 10, 2026, to June 17, hours of content
Optional Program Review at home on IPAD June 17, 2026, to June 30, 2026
Creator Camp Team Call MS Team Virtual call June 24, 2026, 7pm
A minimum of 2 year of proven previous camp experience is an asset
Completion of 2 years of a college or University program preferred
Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted. This is a condition of employment and must be in place prior to opening of camp.
Must have a valid First Aid/CPR level C certificate in place by the start of camp
Should make available 2 references with email and phone contacts
Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (strength and stamina to follow strenuous activities like hiking, long walks, crouching, or carrying children)
Creator Camp specific qualifications
Tech Literacy: Familiarity with the platforms being taught (even if not an expert).
High Energy: Ability to keep kids excited through long "lab time" sessions.
Vigilance: A keen eye for safety, both physical and digital.
At least one year of classroom experience, which can include roles such as tutoring, summer camp counseling, coaching, teacher's assistant, or art instruction.
Higher education in fields related to digital art, filmmaking, animation, coding, music production, game design, entrepreneurship, early childhood education, secondary education, or special education.
Knowledge of and interest in Minecraft and/or Roblox
Willingness to lead classes in multiple digital art subjects.
Familiarity with Apple iPads and ability to adapt quickly to new apps, software, or technology
Strong technical problem-solving ability an asset
Skills
Must have a knowledge of and experience in teaching children
Should demonstrate teamwork and collaboration mindset and skills
Strong planning & organizational skills with the ability to be flexible as needed
Should have problem-solving skills to resolve issues for campers and staff issues
Should enjoy interacting with campers from ages 4 to 12
Excellent communication skills required to work with staff, campers and parents/guardians
Must be patient and comfortable working in a busy, loud & hectic setting
Be a natural educator with patience for kids learning new things
Work Conditions, Salary & Schedule & Location
Work Conditions
Air conditioning at all locations except the Auditorium at Streetsville.
Stand/Walking for long periods
Weekly Bus and Field Trip of 20 to 60 minutes
Minimum 1 hour daily outdoor play periods with campers
30-minute lunch break. 2 x 15-minute breaks should be arranged with the manager
Lunch may need to be enjoyed with the children to ensure supervision. Not all locations have a staff room.
Must be patient and be comfortable working in a busy, loud & hectic setting

Starting salary: $17.50 base pay. Increase availability based on camp experience, Creative Kids Place experience and professional or educational qualifications
