About the Role

Are you passionate about helping students succeed? Join our team as a Learning Center Instructor at Sylvan, where you'll inspire and support students in a positive, engaging environment.

This part-time, in-person role is perfect for future educators, current students in BEd or MEd programs, or experienced teachers looking for flexible hours.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver personalized instruction in reading, math, and study skills using Sylvan's proven curriculum.
  • Prepare engaging lessons and materials for each session.
  • Greet and motivate students, making learning fun and rewarding.
  • Track student progress and celebrate achievements with positive feedback and rewards.
  • Communicate student needs and progress with Center staff.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete ongoing training to enhance your teaching skills.

Schedule

  • Choose 2 or 3 days per week: Monday–Thursday, 4:00–7:00 pm; Saturday, 10:00 am–2:00 pm.

What We're Looking For

  • Enrolled in or completed a BEd or MEd program (preferred).
  • 1+ year of teaching, tutoring, or related experience (preferred).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students of various ages.
  • Comfortable with technology and digital learning tools.
  • For reading: knowledge of phonics and reading comprehension.
  • For math: 2+ years of college-level math.

Work Location

  • In person at our Sylvan Learning Center

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 – 10 per week

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • Canadian Teaching Certification (preferred)

Work Location: In person
