The Research Assistant provides technical and research assistance for the project 'Using novel naturalistic eye tracking technologies to uncover emotional attention mechanisms underpinning early-onset, treatment-resistant conduct disorders' that is being conducted in the Parent Child Research Clinic (PCRC) at the UNSW School of Psychology.
The role assists with a variety of research activities necessary to support the research project and the PCRC, including data collection, coding, and entry.

About the role
- $88k - $100k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
- Fixed Term – 1 year
- Part time (7 hours)
The role reports to the Chief Investigator, Professor Eva Kimonis, and has no direct reports.
Specific responsibilities for this role include:
- Conduct assessments with families of children with conduct problems and healthy control children using existing protocols and exercising judgement and initiative to escalate complex issues as required.
- Administer and score psychological measures and experimental tasks including wearable eye-trackers.
- Perform data collection, entry and analysis from mobile eye tracking and other experimental tasks.
- Assist in coding real-time and/or video recorded parent-child interactions using structured behavioural coding systems.
- Create and edit online surveys using Qualtrics or other survey software.
- Conduct intake calls and participant screening interviews.
- Recruit study participants and manage participant scheduling.
- Process participant payments.
- Liaise with stakeholders in the preparation of project materials, ethics and grant applications, abstracts, annual and progress reports.
- Undertake marketing tasks including updating website text, cold calling organisations to promote the project, and distributing flyers.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality when dealing with sensitive client information and adhering to relevant ethical/legal guidelines around privacy, confidentiality, and information security.
- Respond to routine enquiries relating to research.
- Undertake other unsupervised research support tasks consistent with established methodologies as required by the research project team.
- Provide regular communication with the PCRC team and Chief Investigator around any updates/issues.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
- Cooperate with all health & safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the psychosocial or physical health and safety of yourself or others.
About the successful applicant
(Selection Criteria)
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Completion of a degree in Psychology or a related field, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Experience working with children and/or families.
- Prior experience supporting a research project or demonstratable knowledge of standard research practices and protocols.
- Advanced organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise judgement and initiative to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
- Strong computer skills and previous experience with Microsoft Office suite, SPSS statistical software, survey software (e.g., Qualtrics), and programming software (e.g., Inquisit).
- Experience in coding behaviour using structured systems, such as the Dyadic Parent-Child Interaction Coding System (DPICS)
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
