Job Summary
As a member of the Flight Sciences Group, you will serve as a technical resource for analysis, testing, and documentation in the areas of Stability, Control, and Aerodynamics. This role supports the design, development, certification, production, and in-service activities of De Havilland portfolio of aircraft, with a strong emphasis on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. Working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment, the engineer will lead, or support engineering activity related to aircraft involved with air transport, firefighting, search and rescue.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform Stability & Control analyses using in-house tools and methods.
- Support aerodynamic and aircraft handling assessments through CFD analysis and interpretation of results.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of dynamic flight simulation models.
- Provide support to production and flight test teams for aircraft handling related issues and non-conformances.
- Develop, maintain, and apply in-house software, analytical methods, and simulation tools.
- Collaborate with internal disciplines and external partners/suppliers to ensure efficient data flow and informed decision-making.
- Prepare high-quality technical documentation, including Reports, Test Plans, Requirements Documents, Work Statements, and Cost Estimates.
- Conduct analyses and produce documentation demonstrating compliance with applicable airworthiness regulations.
- Stay current with advancements in aerodynamic methods, CFD techniques, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in accident investigation activities as needed.
- Maintain close collaboration with internal groups including Stress, Weights, Flight Controls, Customer Engineering, Airworthiness, Systems, Testing, Production, and In-Service Support.
- Communicate effectively with external suppliers, partners, and certification authorities.
- Support activities that may require occasional travel.
Skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and creativity, with the capability to manage a large volume of aircraft handling and aerodynamic analyses within schedule and cost constraints.
- Ability to interpret CFD, simulation, and flight-test data to resolve aircraft handling issues under tight deadlines.
- Commitment to developing and implementing innovative aerodynamic and stability-analysis tools, methods, and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Strong academic background in Stability and Control, aerodynamics, and preliminary aircraft design.
- Demonstrated aptitude and experience in CFD analysis is an asset.
- Experience with wind tunnel testing and/or flight testing is an asset.
- Familiarity with programming languages such as FORTRAN, C, or C++, and experience with UNIX environments
- Experience with dynamic flight simulations using commercial tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
- Familiarity with MATRIXx is an asset.
- Familiarity with FlightScape Insight Analysis is an asset.
- Basic understanding of aircraft structures and systems, and familiarity with airworthiness regulations, is desirable.
- Strong skills in preparing technical reports and presentations using standard office software.
- Familiarity with Star-CCM+, SpaceClaim, Pointwise, Paraview, NSU3D are assets
