Brief Overview:The Metis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) is the government that represents Métis citizens in Saskatchewan, and MN-S Ministry of Health and Mental Health and Addictions is responsible for improving the health and well-being of Métis citizens in Saskatchewan.
MN–S Ministry of Health and Mental Health and Addictions is seeking a Mental Health Case worker to work independently and collaboratively to support Métis citizens throughout the homeland who are seeking mental health or substance use services and supports. The Métis Mental Health Case worker will connect individuals to clinical mental health services and provide ongoing support as to ensure appropriate continuum of care.
Key Responsibilities:- Connect Saskatchewan Métis citizens including children, youth and their families to mental health and substance use services and support.
- Provide ongoing support to individuals accessing services throughout their episode of care.
- Identify mental health and substance use professional and supportive services in Saskatchewan and keep an up-to-date directory and resource list.
- Ensure client confidentiality and protection in all aspects of the work
- Network and build strong collaborations and partnerships with appropriate organizations, agencies, and service providers across the homeland, including with Saskatchewan Health Authority.
- Work collaboratively to identify gaps or needs in mental health and substance use services and work towards developing solutions to fulfill them.
- Keep up-to-date files and records.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Post-secondary education in human services or equivalent combination of academic, professional and/or lived experience is required.
- Experience working directly with community members requiring mental health support, ideally with First Nations or Métis peoples.
- Experience in navigating multi-jurisdictional public systems.
- Experience in community or public services.
- Ability to communicate in Indigenous languages is an asset but not a requirement.
- Case management experience is considered an asset.
- Familiar with the principles of person-centered and trauma-informed care.
- Understanding of Indigenous social determinants of health and knowledge of available community resources.
- General awareness of the Métis Nation and Métis identity, Métis health issues and the current context of health governance in Saskatchewan
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including via phone and video conference
- Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office 365 suite and Adobe.
- Valid Saskatchewan driver's license and access reliable transportation
- Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Must be able to work remotely with minimal supervision.
