About the Club & Role

The Axemen Rugby Club is a community of players, volunteers, and professionals committed to growing the sport of rugby and creating a space to thrive in the Sea to Sky. We care about building good players and good people, keeping our athletes resilient, and creating a club culture rooted in respect, teamwork, and showing up for each other.

We're looking for a Team Therapist to join our medical team who enjoys being part of a team environment, wants to get involved in a growing community and support our players on the field.

You would be joining two other physios and help grow our medical care capacity to better support players across the club. The medical team supports two senior men's teams, the women's program, and youth programs.

Details

  • Compensation: $30–$35/hour for time spent at games and practices
  • Schedule: 1-4 Practices/Games per month
  • Practices: Thursdays in Squamish
  • Games: Saturdays throughout the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky
  • Season: October-May (ish)
  • Travel: Some travel is part of the role, as games take place across the Lower Mainland and Sea to Sky.
  • Travel time isn't paid; it's often coordinated with the team
  • Sometimes the club provides travel (bus), depending on the trip.

Role Summary

As a Team Therapist you'll be responsible for providing high-quality assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to players during training sessions, games, and tournaments. You'll help prevent injuries, treat injuries when they happen, provide sideline first aid, and work with coaches and other medical staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide pitch-side first aid and emergency response during games and training
  • Assess injuries and give appropriate treatment or referral
  • Support rehab and return-to-play plans for injured players
  • Keep clear and confidential injury and treatment records
  • Work with the medical team and Player Welfare rep to share basic injury prevention and recovery guidance with players, coaches and parents
  • Work closely with coaches, trainers, and volunteers to support player welfare and safety

Requirements

  • Degree or certification in Physiotherapy, Athletic Therapy, Kinesiology or Registered Massage Therapy.
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Taping Course/Certification

**If the therapist does not have a certification or course in sport taping, then they will need to be under supervision of a lead therapist until they meet this requirement or demonstrate proficiency and safety

Paperwork

  • Insurance (if applicable) - must have appropriate professional liability insurance where required by law or organizational policy.
  • Register with BC Rugby under Axemen Rugby Club as Medical Staff
  • World Rugby - First Aid in Rugby (online module)
  • World Rugby - Concussion Management for Doctors and Health Care Professionals (online module)

Job Type: Casual

Pay: $30.00-$35.00 per hour

Expected hours: 1 – 4 per week
