Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Senior Accountant is to ensure that all excise tax-related transactions are properly reflected in the Company's General Ledger on a timely basis in accordance with GAAP. This role plays a critical part in the month-end and year-end close processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for reconciliation of sub-ledger and general ledger for all excise tax transactions.
  • Responsible for the monthly review of excise tax-related accounts and variance analysis as compared to expected balances and resolution of all outstanding issues.
  • Responsible for the preparation, to include adequate supporting documentation, and review of General Ledger Journal entries related to excise taxes for the month-end close.
  • Responsible for development and maintenance of account analysis/reconciliation process for excise tax related accounts. Ensures that all account analysis/reconciliation procedures comply with GAAP. Process must include adequate documentation such as account reconciliation summary and documentation of accounting entries for manager/supervisor review.
  • Responsible for partnering with cross-functional teams, including operations, corporate accounting teams and IT department, for researching any potential excise tax related issues.
  • Responsible for communicating any issues found to the tax team members and proposing solutions.
  • Responsible for any ad-hoc analysis requests from internal or external auditors and any client groups in finance and other functional areas regarding excise tax accounts assigned.
  • Assist with preparation and filing of Canadian and US Excise tax returns as needed
  • Responsible for mentoring and coaching junior staff on the project.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent Excel as well as analytical and complex spreadsheet skills
  • Excellent accounting skills and strong knowledge of GAAP accounting
  • At least 3 years of relevant accounting and/or reporting experience, with at least 2 years of relevant monthly complex account reconciliation experience

Compensation
$38.46 to $57.69/hr CAD
