Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP is currently recruiting for an Assistant to join the firm's Creditor Rights & Recovery team on a full-time, permanent basis. This is a predominantly in-office role, based in BWB's beautiful and modern office space at 1801 Hollis Street in Halifax, NS.
The Opportunity:
As an integral member of BWB's Creditor Rights & Recovery team, this role will be responsible for providing support to lawyers by assisting with a portfolio of collection matters. The successful candidate will be tasked with ensuring all assigned files move through the standard collections process in a timely manner, always guaranteeing clients' expectations are not only met, but also exceeded with every interaction.
In particular, the successful candidate's responsibilities could include:
- Completing various administrative tasks for a high volume of collection matters, including assisting with the preparation and drafting of various types of correspondence / legal documents, assisting with skip tracing, sending garnishments to sheriffs' offices, and processing payments / payouts from debtors;
- Liaising with lawyers, clients, and debtors in a professional manner to coordinate work between different parties involved in each file;
- Utilizing various electronic systems to manage and monitor collection files and their status;
- Tasks related to physical and electronic file management, including opening / closing files and conducting conflict checks per the firm's standard processes;
- General administrative duties including handling incoming and outgoing correspondence / mail, printing / copying / scanning documents, liaising with the firm's accounting department for various accounting-related requests, and providing back-up reception coverage, as required; and,
- Other related duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate:
If you are a motivated and organized administrative professional with a keen eye for detail, an aptitude for technology, experience providing top-level client service, and enjoy working independently while also collaborating as part of a team, we want to hear from you
Experience supporting a legal practice (ideally within the Banking & Insolvency area of law), post-secondary education in paralegal studies or office administration, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite would be considered an asset.
