Role OverviewIn your role of an assayer, you will work under the charge and leadership of the Lab coordinators, acting as the primary analyst responsible for determining the content of valuable and process-sensitive elements in geological and concentrator streams samples.
With the primary focus on performing elemental analysis of various process streams and providing reliable assays in a safe and timely manner, your role will form the integral part of the analytical control of the concentrator, Moly Plant and SX-EW process; support the ore extraction/grade control process as well as the final product quality control and the needs of the metal balance and accounting.
Your work directly influences critical operational decisions, from daily ore grading to budgetary process and strategic decisions and forecasts within the overall business development effort at Gibraltar. Assayers are "the eyes" of the mining business and the quality of their work defines how sharp the business' "eyesight" is – without assaying the mining and milling operations are (almost literally) "blind" and cannot function.
Your role will require you to work in a fast-paced environment with a good skill of task prioritising and time management: assayers are capable of working under pressure to deliver timely reliable results that support process control and operational decisions.
Assayer's daily activities at the lab involve using both wet chemistry and physical methods/instruments of elemental analysis, good understanding and following of the safe job procedures and protocols, handling and preparation of hazardous reagents.
This type of activities and environment naturally require the assayer role to adhere to safety-centric and quality-centric working behaviors and style: understanding the safety protocols, rules and procedures, sharing and promoting the safe practices in the lab environment, caring about the safety aspects of your colleagues are inextricable professional aspects and requirements of your role.
