Overview
The Shop Technician is responsible for performing a range of technical, repair, and inventory management tasks within the workshop to ensure smooth daily operations and superior customer service. This role contributes to the efficient functioning of the shop through repairs, counter sales, equipment preparation, and coordination of inventory and materials for service and project work.
Duties
- Complete daily shop safety walk and submit the safety checklist.
- Review workshop email inbox for action items and ensure timely responses.
- Answer incoming phone calls and emails related to shop inquiries.
- Handle counter sales, assist walk-in customers, and manage related inquiries.
- Perform shop repairs, maintenance, and upkeep of tools and equipment.
- Contact customers regarding completed repairs and fulfilled orders.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop shelves and inventory areas.
- Ensure shop and inventory standards meet or exceed a 95% accuracy rating.
- Fulfil picking tickets and item fulfilments for service and supply orders.
- Conduct inventory counts, record data accurately, and submit for manager approval.
- Receive and check goods delivered for stock, service, or project jobs.
- Process customer RMAs (Return Merchandise Authorizations) in accordance with company procedures.
- Transfer inventory and materials to service trucks for scheduled field jobs.
- Prepare equipment and materials for upcoming service and project installations.
- Train and mentor junior or new shop technicians to ensure procedural consistency.
- Coordinate collection and proper disposal of scrap metal.
- Support counter sales by engaging with customers on ongoing and upcoming projects to identify additional sales opportunities.
Requirements
- High school diploma or technical certification in a related field (e.g., mechanics, electrical, or industrial maintenance)
- 2–3 years of experience in a shop, service, or technical support environment
- Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of repair processes
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office, ERP or inventory systems preferred)
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Proven ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $24.00-$30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
