The Mikisew Cree First Nation (Mikisew) has lived on the ancestral lands of the Athabasca Delta and Wood Buffalo National Park in northeastern Alberta since time immemorial. Who You Are

Mikisew Awasis Kisiwatsowin Society is seeking a detail oriented and proactive Generalist Caseworker Trainee to provide support to Generalist Caseworkers in delivering child, youth, and family services in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act and agency policies. This position will assist with all aspects of case management, including intake, assessment, case planning, and permanency activities. This role offers hands-on learning and practical experience in child intervention work, focusing on building skills in client engagement, safety assessment, documentation, and collaboration with families, communities, and service providers.

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Support caseworkers in all delegated case management functions, including intake, assessment, case planning, and permanency activities in accordance with the Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.
  • Assist in completing ongoing assessments, safety assessments, and required documentation.
  • Maintain organized and up-to-date case records, ensuring all information is entered promptly into the CICIO system.
  • Assist caseworkers in the preparation of court applications, affidavits, and related legal documents.
  • Manage a trainee caseload under the supervision and guidance of the Intervention Supervisor, following the provincial delegation schedule.
  • Accompany case workers to service team meetings, community visits, and client appointments to observe and participate in case management processes.
  • Arrange and supervise family visits in accordance with case plans and agency policies.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, service providers, and community partners to promote child and family well-being.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the agencies objectives.

Education and Experience:

  • Diploma or Degree in Social Work or related degree/diploma in a human services field is an asset.
  • A combination of training and lived experience may be considered.
  • Currently delegated or the ability to be delegated in the province of Alberta.
  • Currently registered or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers.
  • Knowledge of Children and Family Services is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other office management software.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.

Requirements:

  • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector.
  • Child Intervention Record Check.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license with a Satisfactory 5-year Drivers Abstract.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required.
  • Willingness and ability to work after hours and/or weekends when required.
  • Willingness to submit to an oath of confidentiality.
