About the job

As part of our team, you will:

  • provide subject matter expertise and technical leadership to the Red Team by developing and maintaining penetration testing methodologies, templates, techniques, and tools
  • review and evaluate penetration testing activities conducted by team members, identifying opportunities for improvement and refining methodologies, processes, and techniques to enhance service quality
  • lead and coordinate the identification, analysis, and prioritization of operating system and software/application vulnerabilities using both manual and automated techniques
  • lead and coordinate vulnerability assessments across a large, diverse enterprise environment, identifying common attack vectors, web application vulnerabilities, and recommending best practices for remediation
  • coordinate tactical team members in mission-critical proactive risk assessments that analyze and evaluate the physical/virtual security implementation between client ministries, agencies, third parties, contractors and vendors to ensure that appropriate security controls are in place and comply with OPS directives and industry best practices
  • evaluate new security tools and technologies, assessing their potential applications and benefits within the enterprise environment
  • build and maintain relationships with partners and stakeholders across the Government of Ontario and the Broader Public Sector to promote secure coding practices and reduce cybersecurity risk
  • deliver training and education to IT project teams
What you bring to the team
Technical knowledge and skills

You have:

  • experience developing penetration testing proposals
  • the ability to research emerging cyber security threats and technologies in a rapidly evolving landscape
  • proficiency in one or more scripting and/or programming languages to develop, extend, or modify exploits, automate processes and adapt open source software
  • knowledge of software and hardware vulnerabilities, and expertise in areas such as rootkit development, antivirus evasion, software testing, disassembly, authentication bypass, Windows APIs, or Linux kernel operations
  • experience using security assessment methodologies and automation to streamline cybersecurity processes
Consultation and collaboration skills

You can:

  • lead consultations with penetration testing specialists and IT project teams to identify and define cyber security requirements
  • present clear and persuasive explanations of complex cybersecurity risks and solutions to senior management
  • present analytical data effectively to a variety of audiences, both technical and non-technical
  • collaborate across diverse teams on high-impact initiatives, while also contributing independently as a specialized expert
  • build and maintain working relationships within the broader IT organization to support various initiatives
Analyzing and problem-solving skills

You can:

  • apply advanced research and analytical techniques to investigate current and emerging threats, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of adversary activities, including intrusion set tactics, techniques, and procedures
  • assess and prioritize cybersecurity risks, and develop clear, actionable reports that communicate vulnerability findings along with detailed recommendations for remediation
  • develop and present options and recommendations for addressing identified security vulnerabilities
Strategic leadership skills

You can:

  • lead tactical teams and coordinate special projects, including task forces and working groups, to support and influence program development
  • provide project direction to both technical and non-technical staff, including internal team members and external stakeholders
  • deliver training and guidance to IT project teams
