Daycare Cook

Stepping UP Daycare is a well sought after daycare Centre located in Nepean and we are looking for a Chef to join our team. Successful applicant must have Safe Food Handler's Certificate, First Aid and CPR, up to date immunization record and a criminal reference check completed no later than 6 months ago.

The daycare cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals and snacks for children in accordance with dietary guidelines, food safety regulations, and any allergy or special dietary requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan and prepare healthy, age-appropriate meals and snacks.

Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment.

Follow all food safety, sanitation, and storage procedures (e.g., HACCP guidelines).

Manage inventory, order groceries, and track food supplies.

Adapt menus for children with allergies, dietary restrictions, or special needs.

Maintain records of menus, food temperatures, and cleaning schedules.

Collaborate with childcare staff regarding mealtimes and special events.

Ensure compliance with local public health and daycare regulations.

Qualifications:

Food Handler's Certificate (required)

Experience cooking in a childcare or institutional setting (preferred)Knowledge of child nutrition and allergy awareness

Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently

Clear background check and vulnerable sector screening

CPR and First Aid certification (an asset)

Working Conditions:

May involve lifting heavy pots, bending, and standing for extended periods

Fast-paced environment during meal prep times

Successful applicant must be reliable and able to work between the hours from 8-4

Monday- Friday. Duties of the employment also includes assisting the entire team keeping the Centre clean.

Applicant must be able to work independently but also take initiative to help out around the Center when time allows.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
