The Role

We need someone who
delivers results
. This isn't a desk job—you'll be out hunting down vehicles to scan, coordinating rentals, managing scanning sessions, translating scans into production-ready CAD, and optimizing manufacturing processes. You'll own projects end-to-end, from cold-calling dealerships to releasing final drawings for production. If you thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments where every day looks different, this is your role.

What You'll Do

  • Source, coordinate, and execute vehicle scanning projects:
Find rental vehicles or negotiate access with dealerships/owners, schedule scanning sessions, and perform high-resolution 3D scans of passenger vehicles and components
  • Convert scan data into manufacturing-ready designs:
Build accurate CAD models in SolidWorks from scan data and design production dies; release models and drawings for manufacturing
  • Optimize workflows and document processes:
Streamline the scan-to-CAD pipeline through automation, scripting, and tool evaluation; write comprehensive SOPs for 3D scanning, modeling, and manufacturing operations
  • Drive manufacturing process development:
Design and execute trials for new manufacturing equipment, collect and analyze process data (temperature/pressure profiles), and iterate parameters to hit yield and cycle-time targets
  • Test, iterate, and improve:
Run prototype die tests, capture dimensional and functional data, and feed findings back into design revisions and continuous-improvement initiatives
  • Be resourceful:
Cold-call contacts, source specialty materials, dig up technical specs—whatever it takes to keep projects moving forward

Must-Haves

  • Education:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline
  • Design experience:
2–3 years of engineering design experience in a hands-on role
  • SolidWorks proficiency:
2–3 years using SolidWorks (surfacing, assemblies, drawings, and reverse-engineering workflows)
  • Communication skills:
Exceptional written and verbal communication—you'll be writing SOPs, coordinating with external contacts, and collaborating across teams
  • Mobility:
Valid driver's license and access to a personal vehicle
  • Process engineering background:
Experience developing or optimizing manufacturing processes
  • Technical writing:
Proven ability to create SOPs, work instructions, or technical documentation

Nice-to-Haves (Assets)

  • Project planning and project management experience
  • Surfacing experience (complex surface modeling, Class-A surfacing)
  • 3D scanning experience (calibration, scan processing, reverse engineering)
  • Experience designing composite parts or working with composite manufacturing
  • Thermoforming experience
(strong asset—this is highly relevant to our processes)
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., CloudCompare, GOM Inspect)
  • Background in plastics manufacturing or tooling design

Who You Are

You're
hands-on, scrappy, and versatile
. You roll with the punches and figure things out on the fly. You don't wait to be told what to do—you see what needs to happen and you make it happen. You're comfortable managing ambiguity, learning new equipment quickly, and wearing multiple hats. You take ownership, iterate fast, and thrive in a startup environment where resourcefulness matters more than rigid processes.
