Job Overview
Prima Enterprises Ltd. is currently seeking, casual on-call employees for our Community inclusion Program in Kamloops. First Aid certification, a BC class 5 Driver's Licence, and submitting to a Criminal Record Search are required. CPI/MANDT/Behavior Support Training. The position requires the use of a personally owned and reliable vehicle.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow and fully participate in carrying out all policies and procedures for client focused outcomes:
a) Ensure that each individual's rights are supported and promoted to ensure their self determination.
b) Provide opportunities and support individuals to develop and maintain personal relationships and support networks.
c) Participate in the development, implementation and regular evaluation of clients' personalized plans (Personal Service Plans) including client centered goals and strategies that reflect individual needs, wishes and preferences in all aspects of their lives.
d) Ensure that individuals' health and safety needs are met, and their well-being is promoted at all times and in all circumstances.
e) Ensure that individuals experience inclusion and will make meaningful contributions in their communities (community interaction and integration). Identify social, economic, recreational. and educational services in the community that will meet clients' needs. Liaise with other agencies, professionals and the community at large.
f) Develop strategies to promote individual's diversity of services, including cultural diversity.
Recognize, acknowledge and utilize all opportunities for communication skill acquisition and integration within the clients' daily lives. Assess clients' communication needs, access and utilize all available resources to develop, implement and evaluate plans and strategies which will meet the specific communication needs of each client.
Act as a positive role model for clients, demonstrating appropriate dress, appearance, behaviour and life skills that, when emulated by the clients, portrays a healthy self-image reflecting the accepted norms of the community in which the client lives.
Complete, maintain and distribute, as required, all necessary files, records, reports, incident reports, forms, observations, communications, notes and statistics on clients and the program as required. Ensure that all documentation is complete, legible and accurate.
Ensure all medication related policies, procedures, regulations and duties are carried out including, but not limited to, ordering, dispensing, administering, documenting, recording, and reporting medication errors.
Provide life skills training such as meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and personal finance.
Assist individuals with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene, grooming and toileting.
Implement the Least Restrictive Approach to Behaviour Support and CPI - Non-Violent Crisis Intervention techniques and strategies in supporting clients at all times. Recognize, analyze and deal with potential emergency situations (such as clients' aggressive behaviour) to ensure no harm comes to the client and/or the public.
Ensure client health and safety at all times. Ensure health and safety policies and procedures are followed at all times.
Provide guidance, support and feedback to clients regarding appropriate behaviour and appearance to promote integration and development of positive relationships within the community.
Undertake key worker role when assigned, including compiling and completing required documentation and reports.
Perform home/facility and yard maintenance and housekeeping duties including, but not limited to, cooking, cleaning, laundry, shopping, inventory, mowing and watering lawns, snow shovelling, etc.
Transportation and assistance of clients to appointments, programs, shopping, leisure activities, etc.
Petty cash and client finances - Prudent use of clients' and program/company funds, accurate accounting of all monies and finances, documenting and recording of all required data, teaching and assisting clients regarding use and handling of funds, purchasing and banking.
Perform other related duties as required.
Experience:
- Has worked directly with participants in a person centered, client-led goal setting and trauma informed practices.
- Working along side participants in creating and maintaining a healthy living space.
- Previous behaviour management training.
- Ability to communicate effectively through appropriate documentation and verbally.
- Ability to maintain consistent and professional boundaries.
- Related experience in working with vulnerable populations and behavioural challenges.
- Knowledge and ability to work with complex trauma.
- Excellent understanding of behaviour management principals, strategies including mental health needs.
- To work in conjunction with the person served to ensure their home is clean and well maintained, including daily food prep and meals, house-keeping and menu planning.
- Assist our people served in fostering their life skills and/or access to community resources.
- Ability to create a meaningful routine.
- Knowledge of creating independence verses dependence.
- Previous experience working in a supportive living environment.
- Knowledge of mental health challenges, complex barriers, developmental disabilities, FASD, behavioral needs and implementing positive reinforcement
- Medication administration, MARS and documentation pertaining to that specific area.
Requirements
- Valid First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Valid Food Safe.
- Valid MANDT/NVCI certification.
- clear criminal record check for vulnerable populations.
- valid class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the resource.
- Diploma in community support worker/human services.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of related field.
- Combination of education, training and lived/professional experience will be considered.
Must be available for days, evenings and overnights
