Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada The Mullings Group Full time $120,000 - $180,000 per year

TMG Search Canada is proud to partner with our client, Mercer Celgar, in the search for an
Engineering Manager
to join their team in Castlegar, BC. In this role, the Engineering Manager will lead all mill engineering activities, ensuring regulatory compliance and CapEx project management.

This role serves as the mill's Primary Responsible Registrant with EGBC, overseeing mechanical, electrical, and project engineering. Responsibilities include budget planning, external resource management, and providing engineering support for operational improvements, requiring a proactive leader for both routine and long-term initiatives.

This position requires relocation to Castlegar, BC; moving allowances and supports will be provided.

Mercer Celgar

Established in 1961, Mercer Celgar marked a significant development in British Columbia's industrial landscape as the inaugural pulp mill in the interior region. Over the decades, it has played a pivotal role in Castlegar's economic and social fabric and the broader West Kootenay area, emerging as a key employer and community pillar.

Its strategic positioning within one of British Columbia's prime fibre baskets enhances its operational efficiency, with its close proximity to the BC coast providing logistical advantages for distribution and access to raw materials. This geographical advantage underscores Mercer Celgar's commitment to leveraging local resources sustainably while contributing to regional growth.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the mill's mechanical, electrical and project engineering activities.
  • Acting as the mill's Primary Responsible Registrant with Engineers & Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC).
  • Ensuring that the mill is compliant with the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and EGBC regulations.
  • Ensuring that the mill is compliant with the Quality Control Manual for Class "A" Work and related Technical Safety BC regulations.
  • Ensuring compliance with the Engineering Department's Policies and Standards.
  • Overseeing the mill's CapEx budget tracking and monthly cost forecasting.
  • Planning the mill's long term CapEx needs for the next 5+ years.
  • Overseeing the planning, budgeting and execution process of the mill's CapEx projects and engineering supported maintenance projects.
  • Overseeing external engineering resources with a focus on costs, efficiency and quality.
  • Providing engineering support to the Operations and Maintenance Departments for general maintenance activities and reliability improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC.
  • Ten or more years of relevant experience in an industrial setting.
  • Formal leadership training and past leadership experience.

Total Compensation

A competitive salary and competitive pension plan will be provided for the successful individual. The group benefits package, which has no waiting period, includes extended health and dental benefits, in addition to an on-site gym. Flex-time working hours are available in addition to relocation supports to move to Castlegar or the surrounding area.

Castlegar, BC

Castlegar, BC, sits where the Kootenay and Columbia Rivers meet, serving as the heart of the Kootenay Rockies. With just over 8,300 residents, the city blends rich Sinixt and Doukhobor heritage with forestry roots, a vibrant arts scene, and modern opportunities in education and tourism. Selkirk College's main campus adds youthful energy, and the West Kootenay Regional Airport keeps the community well connected.

Life here is shaped by both culture and adventure. Signature events include Sunfest, Castlegar's lively June celebration, and unique festivals like the reggae-inspired Can-Jam Link Up and the fiery autumn Night of Fire. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore nearby Syringa Provincial Park's beaches and 4,499 hectares of wilderness, paddle into the Arrow Lakes, or climb at Kinnaird Rocks. SculptureWalk, heritage bridges, and local galleries make art part of daily life.
