The John H. Daniels Faculty of Landscape, Architecture and Design at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in landscape architecture, architecture, and urbanism. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026.

Candidates must have earned a professional Master's degree in Landscape Architecture or a related area by the time of appointment and demonstrate strength in the allied field of architecture with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching across and at the intersection of the disciplines of landscape architecture, architecture, and urban design. In their teaching and creative work, candidates should demonstrate an understanding of the multiple scales and levels of complexity at which landscape, architecture, ecology, infrastructure, and cities intersect, and the complex factors that shape these intersections in contemporary practice.
Candidates should be engaged in speculative and creative forms of landscape and architectural design, and innovative design and representation methods with a record of widely recognized professional accomplishment in the fields of landscape architecture, particularly in its relationship with architecture and the city.
Candidates will be expected to teach in master's level landscape architecture and architecture programs, and undergraduate BA programs at the Daniels. A preference will be given to candidates who have a record of teaching within professional and non-professional undergraduate programs—with leading roles in curriculum development.
We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths. Candidates must have a minimum of five years teaching experience in a masters level professional degree-granting program in landscape architecture, with experience in lecture preparation and delivery, and curriculum development. Additionally, candidates must possess a demonstrated commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry and a demonstrated interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.
Evidence of excellence in teaching and commitment to excellent pedagogical inquiry can be demonstrated by teaching accomplishments, and the teaching dossier, including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application, as well as strong letters of reference. Professional creative accomplishment in areas related to teaching are desirable as demonstrations of relevant expertise.
The salary range is $115,000 - $160,000 CAD per annum, depending on experience. Negotiations beyond this salary range will be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
Set within a preeminent research university and located at the center of one of North America's most cosmopolitan cities, the Daniels Faculty uniquely combines the disciplines of architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, visual studies, and forestry in undergraduate, professional, and advanced graduate programs. The Daniels Faculty explores the intersections between nature, technology, architecture, and various built and natural geographies in a way that situates design, art, and forestry to meet their contemporary challenges. An emphasis on the connections between the various disciplines at the Faculty is apparent in the scholarly research and built work of many of our faculty. Following a decade-long transformation of the school's faculty and professional programs, and a major increase in its endowment, the Faculty has recently expanded its undergraduate and graduate programs. To accommodate both growth in its curricular offerings and an increase in its research and outreach programs, an award-winning new building complex for the Student mentorship demonstrated in publications authored by students under the candidate's supervision.
