10hrs per week, or as needed
Hourly Wage:
$19/hr
Duration:
Temporary position (January 26th to April 20th, 2026)
Position Overview
Reporting to the Program and Camp Coordinator, Program Support Staff are responsible for the care and safety of children, youth or adults on the autism spectrum. Support staff are scheduled to work 1:1 or 2:1 with participants and help their assigned participant(s) to participate in the activities of the program.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensures that all participants in their care are having a fun, safe and rewarding experience
- Personal care, including toileting, changing, feeding, and lifting may be required
- Work with the leads and counselors to support campers with behavior challenges
- Customize and adapt activities throughout the session to meet individual needs
- Ensures personal items belonging to the participant are accounted for
- Communicates and provides daily updates with the families of the participants in their care
- Writes daily/weekly reports for the participants in his/her care
- Provide input for reports of serious incidents and occurrences as needed
- Rotates every week between different campers and different rooms
- Ensures full compliance with Autism Ontario policies and procedures
- Ensures confidentiality of all participant records
- Assists with clean-up of programs at the end of the season including; storing supplies and equipment, identifying broken equipment, and inventory count
- Other tasks as directed by the Program Coordinator
- Responsible for the safety and security of staff and participants:
- Follow the Code of Conduct and Operational Policies of Autism Ontario
- Follow all OCA standards
- Respond to first aid and emergencies as required
- Ensure that program areas are kept safe, clean, and organized
- Maintain health and safety standards at all times
- Complete incident report forms when necessary
- Follow Behaviour Management Systems Guidelines
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Experience supporting individuals with ASD is preferred
- Experience working with individuals in a camp or recreational environment is an asset
- Experience modifying/adapting activities to meet the needs of the assigned
participant(s)
- Experience in program planning is an asset
- Leadership experience is an asset
- Current criminal reference check including the vulnerable sector (6 months)
- Current First Aid and CPR-C is an asset
- Current BMS is an asset
- Strong interpersonal, oral communication skills, and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations
- Individual must be able to participate with high energy in all activities
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of social justice, neurodiversity, equity, inclusion, anti- racism, anti-Black racism, anti-ableism
