Real Estate & Development Services is responsible for the management of City owned land. Reporting to the Manager, Real Estate Governance and Strategy, you will provide business and operational leadership to the team, including mentorship and oversight of strategic planning, project coordination, business measurements, marketing, industry trends and analytics. As the Leader, Real Estate Business Development and Strategy, you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes equity, diversity and inclusion, as well as psychological and physical safety. As a key decision-maker, you will empower and guide your team, applying political acumen and balancing strategic with operational leadership. Primary duties include:

  • Coordinate One Calgary business planning activities.
  • Lead policy and bylaw development and implementation.
  • Oversee and guide the management of cross divisional projects.
  • Provide business unit strategic objective setting, performance measurements and guides related strategic initiatives.
  • Provide direction and support to staff including annual work planning for the section, individual performance management, staff development, and succession planning.
  • Facilitate, develop, align, and integrate strategy and programs to support Council, Departmental, and Business Unit priorities.
  • Oversee marketing objectives, tactics, distributed materials, and the management of these systems within a Customer Relationship Management technical system.
  • Manage the needs assessment and the creation and distribution of data analytics required within the Real Estate and Development team.
  • Leverage technology and process efficiencies.
  • Perform financial monitoring, reporting, and management.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Business, Real Estate, Engineering, Planning, Architecture, or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in strategic planning or corporate real estate, including planning, urban and development planning, and/or facility management; including at least 4 years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • A master's degree will be considered an asset.
  • Prior experience in business planning in a large organization and/or government would be an asset.
  • Success in this position requires an individual who has comfort with ambiguity, optimistic ambition, and a passion for excellence.
  • Exceptional communication, facilitation, engagement, and change management skills, together with demonstrated business, political and financial acumen are essential.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level M2 $130, ,000 per annum

Days of Work: This position works a 5 day

work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
