Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain and update the rate database for accurate cost estimation.
• Collaborate with Prime personnel to source upcoming bids and tenders.
• Review bid opportunities and present potential projects during estimating meetings.
• Analyze market conditions and assess risks associated with bids, offering strategic recommendations for successful submissions.
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from project documents and drawings.
• Ensure thorough understanding of tender documents, including specifications, addenda, scope of work, project milestones, and constraints.
• Communicate questions and RFIs to owners and consultants to clarify project details.
• Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to meet project requirements and contractual obligations.
• Prepare comprehensive final estimate summaries, analyzing scope, pricing, and completeness across all sections.
• Participate in tender closings and ensure timely submission of bid packages.
• Draft and issue quotation letters and related correspondence.
• Handle requests for bonds and insurance certificates.
• Conduct project forecast meetings, supporting construction teams with pricing for change orders and additional work.
• Assist with site supervision and project management during slow periods.
• Collaborate with Project Managers and Superintendents to review tender specifications, scheduling, risks, and productivity metrics.
• Facilitate smooth bid handovers to operations and ensure seamless transition from estimating to project management.

Requirements

• Proven experience in estimating civil construction projects.
• Specialized experience in heavy civil sectors, including Sewer and Watermain works.
• Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering, Construction Science, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
• Advanced skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, BlueBeam, and Estimating software such as InEight.
• Experience with InEight Estimating software is an asset.
• Prior experience with bids and tenders processes.
• Familiarity with municipal contracts and specifications is advantageous.
• Strong management, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent time management and prioritization abilities.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
• Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
