About the Role:

Omni Bridgeway is seeking an exceptional and collaborative dispute resolution expert for a role in Canada. You will work as Legal Counsel supporting the litigation investment team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting due diligence on prospective funding opportunities, including the analysis of legal, factual and financial issues and strategy;
  • Working closely with lawyers and clients seeking funding in order to assess the merits of their litigation;
  • Providing recommendations as to the appropriateness of funding various opportunities;
  • Assisting with the review, management and oversight of funded cases ;
  • Undertaking analysis of relevant legal issues, market conditions or other issues as directed;
  • Engaging with Omni colleagues across global offices on investment opportunities and company matters; and
  • Assisting with business development activities including presentations, network development, article writing and maintaining relationships with key law firms and clients.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

The following experience and skills are required for the role:  

  • Licensed and in good standing as a member of the Barreau du Québec;
  • French & English fluency
  • Minimum 4 years post-call litigation experience, specifically relating to complex litigation;
  • Superior academic credentials;
  • Exposure to litigation strategy as part of complex litigation;
  • Knowledge of the Canadian courts and litigation process;
  • An understanding of (or a willingness to acquire an understanding of) financial reporting and the ability to financially analyze public and private companies and trust structures; and

Desired Experience:

  • Business or finance education;
  • Common law experience

À propos du poste : Omni Bridgeway est à la recherche d'un candidat exceptionnel en résolution de litiges, doté d'un esprit collaboratif, pour un poste au Canada. Vous travaillerez comme conseiller juridique en support à l'équipe d'investissement en litiges.

Responsabilités Principales:

  • Effectuer la vérification diligente des dossiers pour financement potentiel, y compris l'analyse des enjeux juridiques, factuels et financiers, ainsi que de la stratégie;
  • Collaborer étroitement avec les avocats et les clients à la recherche de financement afin d'évaluer le bien-fondé de leurs litiges;
  • Formuler des recommandations quant à la pertinence du financement de diverses opportunités;
  • Contribuer à l'examen, à la gestion et au suivi des dossiers financés;
  • Analyser les questions juridiques pertinentes, les conditions du marché ou d'autres enjeux;
  • Collaborer avec les collègues d'Omni dans d'autres régions sur les opportunités d'investissement et autres;
  • Contribuer aux activités de développement des affaires, notamment les présentations, le développement du réseau, la rédaction d'articles et le maintien des relations avec les principaux cabinets d'avocats et clients.

Compétences et Qualifications Requises :

L'expérience et les compétences suivantes sont requises pour ce poste:

  • Être membre en règle du Barreau du Québec;
  • Maîtrise du français et de l'anglais;
  • Minimum de quatre ans d'expérience en litige après l'admission au Barreau, plus particulièrement dans les litiges complexes;
  • Excellents résultats scolaires;
  • Expérience en stratégie de litige dans le cadre de litiges complexes;
  • Connaissance des tribunaux canadiens et du processus de litige;
  • Compréhension (ou volonté de l'acquérir) de l'information financière et capacité d'analyser financièrement les sociétés ouvertes et fermées ainsi que les structures de fiducie; et

Expérience Souhaitée :

  • Formation en administration des affaires ou en finance;
  • Expérience en common law
