Description

Responsible for the electrical design of automation machinery based on customer information, company and departmental standards, requirements and supervisor and peer input.  Responsible for ensuring that the design meets the customer's expectations, is completed within the scheduled timeframe, and can be manufactured within the budgeted time and costs

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•    Works in a safe manner in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

•    Communicate with engineering in order to fully understand sequence of operation

•    Determine requirements for design from quote and customer specifications

•    Create electrical drawings, panel layouts, and engraved panels using AutoCAD Electrical to required standards

•    Create electrical bill of material for purchasing

•    Provide technical guidance to other Designers, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical department

•    Arrange for any inspections required

•    Update AutoCAD Electrical drawings to reflect as-built changes as required

•    Ensure that a complete and accurate set of final drawings are available

Position Requirements (Knowledge, Skill, Ability)

•    Should be proficient in the use of AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical

•    Should have practical experience in wiring panels and automated machinery

•    Must understand the Ontario Electrical Code

•    Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret written and verbal communications in the English language

•    Must be able communicate effectively with customers

•    Must be able to work with others in a fast-paced environment

Autonomy and Authority

•    Receives instructions on specific assignments.

•    Expected to work independently with guidance from Senior or Lead electrical designers to complete electrical design package for individual panels and entire lines or machines according to established standards

•    Complex circuits or requirements referred to higher authority for guidance and review.

•    Gives technical guidance to other designers, programmers and electrical department with respect to electrical design issues and standards

Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

•    College or University degree in engineering or related discipline

•    A minimum of 2 years of electrical design experience (automation required)

Special Requirements (physical demands and work environment):

•    Must be able to work in all types of manufacturing environments (oil, dust, etc.)

•    Frequent light and occasional moderate lifting may be required

•    Must be physically able to trouble shoot and calibrate machinery from standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching and prone positions.  

•    Must be able to sit for extended periods of time.

•    May be exposed to medium to light noise levels

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $37.84 to $ Actual compensation will depend on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We also consider internal equity to ensure fair and consistent pay practices. This range reflects the expected full compensation range for this role; most offers will fall within the range and not at the maximum in order to allow for future growth.
