Maintenance Worker

SUMMARY
Reporting to the superintendent of recreational facilities and parks and green spaces, the incumbent performs a variety of general maintenance and cleaning tasks at assigned recreational facilities and green spaces; enforces policies, procedures and public safety in accordance with established safety practices; and collaborates with user groups.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wash and clean common areas (windows, doors, floors, walls, corridors, lobbies, stairs, podiums, rooms and offices)
- Clean changing rooms and disinfect toilets, showers and sinks
- Paint damaged surfaces
- Drive the zamboni
- Assemble and disassemble furniture and equipment needed for ice surfaces and activities
- Operate motorized equipment used to maintain parks and green spaces (mower, tractor, brushcutter, ATV, line marker, etc.)
- Repair and install playground and sports equipment
- Clear access roads and spread abrasives
- Collect waste and empty garbage cans
- Replace defective lighting
- Check that equipment and tools are operating properly, make minor repairs and report breakdowns and defects to the supervisor
- Monitor the premises and ensure good order and public safety when facilities are in use
- Unlock doors and fences and restrict access to authorized persons only
- Inform clients about facilities, services and general activities
- Answer the phone
- Take compressor readings
- Follow Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) procedures
- Enforce policies and procedures established by the leisure and recreation department
- Ensure the safety of staff and the public when facilities, equipment and tools are in use
- Supervise casual and student staff
- Carry out all other related tasks associated with the smooth running of activities
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
Certification
- Arena Operator, Level 1
Driver's license
- Class 5
Experience
- Two (2) years' experience in general maintenance in a municipal environment
Skills
- Good communication skills in French and English
- Ability to communicate, listen well and interact easily with people in general
- Initiative, discernment and ability to prioritize
- Ability to work under pressure, independently, as part of a team, and without ongoing supervision
- Ability to quickly assess situations
- Versatility and availability
- Ability to operate equipment and tools
- Positive attitude with respect to the interests of the municipality and the community in general
- Ability to perform the manual skills required of the work requested
- Physical ability to do the work assigned
- Punctuality and regular attendance
- Good past record of job performance
- Respect for the City of Dieppe's confidentiality rules and organizational values
WORK SCHEDULE
- Forty (40) hours per week (various shifts - day, evening and weekend)
SALARY
- As per CUPE Local 4679 collective agreement
