This role sits within the second line of defense and is focused on designing, improving, and transforming processes that support the bank's model risk framework. The Senior Manager will:

  • Design and Optimize Processes: Translate model risk framework requirements into actionable processes, identify areas for improvement, and build scalable solutions.

  • Drive Synergies Across Teams: Align validation teams through standardized templates, oversight, and activity pipeline management.

  • Lead Change Management: Communicate and implement changes across both first and second line teams, including training and stakeholder engagement.

Provides expertise in the design, development, management, and implementation of key processes and strategic initiatives supporting the execution of the Model Risk Management framework. Develops business goals and key performance metrics to support program monitoring and enable insights. Works across BMO to deliver specific program results in alignment with overall group goals.

  • Designs, develops, and implements processes and procedures to support the model risk management framework and meet regulatory requirements.

  • Develops business cases by identifying needs/opportunities, analyzing potential options and assessing expected return on investment.

  • Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements and develops roadmap for strategic execution.

  • Leads change management programs of varying scope and type, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.

  • Directs the planning & implementation of operational programs for model risk management and executes within required service level agreements and standards.

  • Provides input into the planning and implementation of strategic programs.

  • Ensures strong governance and effective controls across model risk management processes and procedures in accordance with enterprise standards.

  • Supports the development and maintenance of the model risk management framework.

  • Designs and monitors key risk metrics and performance indicators to measure the effectiveness of the model risk management program; recommends changes as required.

  • Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.

  • Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting.

  • Acts as the prime subject matter expert for internal/external stakeholders.

  • Acts as a relationship manager on assigned projects/programs.

  • Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

  • Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.

  • Monitors and tracks performance and addresses any issues.

  • Reviews the program for effectiveness, considers industry trends and recommends enhancements; makes changes as required.

  • Operates at an enterprise-wide level and serves as a specialist resource to senior leaders and stakeholders.

  • Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to problems that can be complex and non-routine.

  • Implements changes in response to shifting trends.

  • Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge and understanding of model life cycles and model risk management practices.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge of risk management, audit, compliance, governance and/or project management is preferred.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge of business and regulatory environment and understanding of risk issues / trends and best practices.

  • In-depth / expert knowledge & experience with risk policy frameworks; quality control / testing frameworks.

  • In-depth / expert communication and relationship management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with effective planning and organizing skills.

  • Seasoned professional with a combination of education, experience and industry knowledge.

  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth / expert.

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills - In-depth / expert.

  • Influence skills - In-depth / expert.

  • Collaboration & team skills; with a focus on cross-group collaboration - In-depth / expert.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
