Job Description
We are seeking a confident and professional Driver Examiner to join our team and support our mission of promoting safe, responsible driving across Nova Scotia. This role involves conducting prescheduled road tests for individuals pursuing their driver's licenses, providing clear guidance, and delivering fair, consistent evaluations. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, sound judgment, and a passion for helping others develop the skills needed to navigate the road safely and responsibly.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct prescheduled road tests for individuals seeking driver's licenses, evaluating driving skills, decision-making, and adherence to all provincial traffic laws and regulations.
• Use clear, effective written and verbal communication skills in English to provide instructions and guidance to test candidates (additional languages considered an asset).
• Demonstrate sound judgment, professionalism, and the ability to stay focused in a fast-paced, multitasked environment.
• Possess a thorough understanding of the Nova Scotia Driver's Handbook and Rules of the Road and apply this knowledge throughout the examination process.
• Ensure all assessments meet the specific criteria established by the Department of Public Works and Safety Services Nova Scotia.
• Participate in ongoing performance evaluations conducted by management to support continuous improvement.
• Successfully complete a comprehensive training program to achieve competency and certification as a Driver Examiner, as prescribed by the Department of Public Works and Safety Services Nova Scotia.

Qualifications:
• Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while interacting with clients and conducting examinations (staff uniform provided).
• Minimum of five years of driving experience with a valid driver's license.
• A clear driver's abstract, with no suspensions or moving violations.
• No criminal code convictions within the past ten years.
• Have written and verbal communication skills in English (other language skills would be an asset).
• Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Records Check, including a vulnerable sector check.
• Understand the Drivers Handbook, Motor Vehicle Act and the Rules of the Road in the Province of Nova Scotia.
• Be decisive, empathetic, and professional in a multitasked fast paced environment.
• Availability to work evenings and weekends.
• Experience in Canadian road safety education or driver training programs (considered an asset).
• Familiarity with advanced driving techniques and defensive driving practices (considered an asset).
• Previous experience in a regulatory or law-enforcement role related to traffic or transportation (considered an asset).
• A demonstrated passion for promoting road safety and driver education in Nova Scotia.
• Experience administering examinations or assessments, with the ability to maintain a fair, consistent, and structured testing environment.
• Sign a confidentiality agreement and agree not to release any confidential information accessed during their employment, without prior authorization from the province
