What You Will Get To Do

By effectively building positive rapport and relationships both internally and externally, the successful candidate will help us achieve our mission that together we deliver services that make a difference in our community.

Reporting to the Supervisor(s) of Operations – Roads/Traffic, and under the direction of the Working Foreperson(s), the Labourer is responsible for providing general labour for duties involved within the Roads and Traffic sections of the Community Services Department, including:

• operating and maintaining various equipment, vehicles and tools;
• flagging and traffic control;
• installation of traffic signs and detours;
• repairing and/or installing Town fences;
• concrete repairs and installation;
• assisting with roadway patrolling, maintenance, repairs and/or clean up;
• tree trimming and/or removal;
• snow clearing and application of salt on the road and/or sidewalk areas;
• ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;
• providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and other members of staff in a courteous manner; and,
• assisting with other duties as assigned.

You listen attentively and ask questions for clarification and understanding. Using sound judgment, you demonstrate tact, diplomacy and sound discretion when working with others.

You're always happy to learn new things and to help build a working environment that encourages and cultivates new ideas. You foster a collaborative team environment among co-workers, and work well both independently and as part of a team. You solve problems by identifying, gathering and processing relevant information to determine possible solutions, research options, evaluate them using your technical, numerical and analytics skills and make recommendations.

You are knowledgeable about and work in compliance with all workplace safety regulations, standards, and practices. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess:

• a secondary school graduation diploma;
• a minimum of one (1) year directly related experience in roads and roadway maintenance;
• a valid Class "DZ" Driver's Licence maintained in good standing;
• a minimum of one (1) year demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 k.g., G.V.W., including tandem axle trucks;
• successful completion of Defensive Driving training;
• physically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., in varying weather conditions; and
• the ability to operate various tools and equipment in a technical and safe manner.

Mobile Frontline

Hours:

Flex hours, including days, afternoons and nights. Forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Flexible hours maybe required during winter control and/or emergency situations.
