Appeon PowerBuilder Specialist  to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia (CA-NS),
Canada (CA).

Day to Day Job Duties:

This is a remote role in Canada only

• Design, develop, and enhance enterprise applications using Appeon PowerBuilder and PowerServer, following established coding standards and best practices.
• Configure, build, and deploy PowerServer applications on local IIS and other target environments, ensuring stable and repeatable deployment processes.
• Diagnose and debug PowerServer applications end-to-end, identifying root causes and implementing robust fixes for complex technical issues.
• Collaborate closely with business analysts, architects, QA, and other cross-functional stakeholders to refine requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Prepare and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including design specifications, deployment guides, and support runbooks for applications.
• Conduct peer code reviews, enforce coding standards, and provide constructive feedback to improve code quality and maintainability across the team.
• Perform application and database performance tuning, proactively addressing bottlenecks to ensure scalability and reliability.
• Design and execute unit tests, ensuring adequate test coverage and adherence to quality gates before deployment.
• Work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment, participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
• Coach, guide, and mentor junior developers, providing technical leadership and helping build domain and platform expertise within the team.

Basic Qualifications:

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in designing and building applications with Appeon PowerBuilder and PowerServer, including cloud/web deployment scenarios.
• Minimum 5 years of experience working with Oracle databases, including writing and optimizing stored procedures, triggers, and complex queries.
• Minimum 5 years of object-oriented programming principles and their application in PowerBuilder-based solutions.
• Minimum 5 years of proven ability to write clean, maintainable, and well-structured code that adheres to industry and team standards.
• Minimum 3 years of demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-tier application issues.
• Minimum of 3 years of excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Minimum 3 years of proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts, including normalization, indexing, and query optimization.

Nice to Have (But Not a Must):

• Practical experience with version control systems (such as Git or similar) in a collaborative team environment.
• High attention to detail with a strong focus on quality, reliability, and maintainability of delivered solutions.
• Solid understanding of modern software development methodologies and practices, such as Agile, CI/CD, and test-driven development.
