Position Summary
Psychologist, Child Development & Counselling Unit
Your goal in this position is to conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, and provide individual, family and group therapy to children, and youth (and their families) with mental health or psychosocial problems. The psychologist is expected to be an active member of the interdisciplinary team providing family centred care. As well, the psychologist is expected to provide a range of clinical services in collaboration with individuals, families, community agencies, and other professionals. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families. This position supports the hospital's academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. On a practical level, you will
- Provide psychological testing as appropriate to clarify diagnosis, personality dynamics or other difficulties
- Use multi-modal approach to provide therapies in individual and group setting
- Provide consultation to medical and mental health staff
- Participate in the development of policies and procedures relevant to the Mental Health Program
- Participate in the development, planning and implementation of new therapeutic programs based on clinical needs
- Participate in developing and implementing policies regarding patient care and professional practice
- Initiate and participate in research, program evaluation and quality assurance activities
- Access new developments within the profession and arranges appropriate rounds, education sessions with team members
- Participate in training and supervision of staff and students as designated
- Provide education to the hospital staff
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Psychology
- Registered member in good standing or eligible for registration, in the area of clinical psychology, with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
- Experienced in various modes of individual and family therapy for children, youth, and families experiencing social, emotional, and behavioral problems
- Related clinical experience in children's mental health agency or hospital setting
- Bilingualism in French/English an asset
