Characteristic Duties:
Under the general supervision of the Drainage Engineer.

• Review and comment on Land Division Committee, Committee of Adjustment, surplus properties, building permits, requests for letters of tolerance, re-zonings, official plan amendments, lawyers' requests, subdivision and site plan applications, and site plan control agreements for conformity to current policies.
• Examine draft plans of subdivision, review construction drawings for approval of municipal plan, assist with the preparation of final draft agreements for subdivisions, and determine deposit requirements for same.
• Liaise with consulting engineers, utility companies, sub-dividers, contractors, and government ministries regarding standards and specifications for the development of subdivisions.
• Ensure compliance with subdivision agreement and drainage statutory requirements. Review lot grading plans and deal with lot grading matters.
• Utilize and maintain drainage computer programs/models to carry out capacity analysis on drainage systems to determine flows and capacities.
• Assist with compliance of Consolidated Linear Infrastructure Environmental Compliance Approval for Stormwater systems.
• Organize and represent the section on inter-departmental committees and pre-construction meetings as required.
• Investigate drainage inquiries and complaints from the general public and resolve same, or submit reports or recommendations as required.
• Prepare requirements for pre-engineering data collection (e.g., condition assessments, surveys, geotechnical reports, and other engineering reports). Review collected data and recommend actions as required.
• Develop and prepare design plans for drainage works as required. Prepare cost estimates for drainage works.
• Create, maintain, and update reports, specifications, and studies, as well as various databases for engineering records and statistics utilizing Microsoft Office, Cityworks, or similar computer programs, and produce reports as required.
• Provide technical assistance to other sections and departments.
• Direct temporary staff and summer students as required.
• Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of City of Greater Sudbury's (CGS's) Safety Manual and the applicable provincial legislation listed therein.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a three (3) year Civil Engineering Technology Program.
• Over two and one half (2½) years and up to and including five (5) years of related experience on road, drainage, sewer, water design, and construction.
• Knowledge of surveying, drafting, and general engineering practices.
• Demonstrate ability in the use of various engineering and survey instruments.
• Preferable certification or eligible for certification as a Technologist by the Ontario Association of Certified Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
• Ability to work with computer software and administrative systems in a Windows environment (e.g., file maintenance, word processing, spreadsheet applications, information input and retrieval, etc.).
• Knowledge of Cityworks and computer software programs/models regarding drainage and sewer analysis an asset.
• Knowledge of stormwater management.
• Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills in dealing with the public in a courteous and effective manner.
• Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
• French verbal and written skills an asset.
• Satisfactory health, attendance, and former employment history.
• Must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess a valid driver's licence, have an acceptable driving record, and personal insurance coverage.
