Description
The School District of La Crosse is accepting applications for a FTE Early Childhood Special Education Teacher Assistant shared between Hamilton Elementary School (0.40 FTE) and Summit Environmental School (0.40 FTE). Projected start date: November 24, 2025.

This position's schedule is for full-day support on Mondays and Wednesdays at Summit and Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hamilton supporting students in the early childhood program. There is the option for five days a week if a full-time schedule is preferred.

This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction ($100.00 expense to employee but reimbursed by the District.)

Position Responsibilities
Assist students with medical needs, bathroom/hygiene needs and other self-care routines.

Assist students at breakfast/lunch/other eating times.

Carry out behavior modification plans developed by teacher.

Carry out individualized areas of IEPs as developed by teacher.

Follow through on transfer of OT/PT and Speech/Language skills to the daily routine.

Nurture independent behavior.

Help with individual, small group, and large group activities.

Help with other generalized classroom tasks.

Carry out health care procedures as directed by school nurse.

Qualifications
This is a certified position. Certified Teacher Assistant positions require a Special Education Program Aide License from the Department of Public Instruction ($100.00 expense to employee but reimbursed by the District.)

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Two years of education beyond high school or 48 post high school credits preferred.

In lieu of post high school education, acceptable proficiency scores for WorkKeys ACT assessment is required.

Ability to correctly lift and reposition students (who may weigh up to 75 pounds or more) and must be willing and able to use physical restraint when necessary.

Actual employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a Job Specific Screening.

Preferred Qualifications
Certification in infant/child CPR and First Aid required–will train to upgrade skills if needed.

Knowledge of and experience with medical procedures (such as tracheotomy suctioning, sterile catheterization, etc. Additional training will be provided.

Knowledge of and experience with behavior modification plans helpful.

CPI certification–will train to upgrade skills if needed.
