Position Summary

Step by Step is looking to hire a driver for preschool aged children with developmental delays and disabilities. Driving routes are from the school at Street SE, to areas throughout the city of Calgary. Successful candidates will drive a company owned van.

There are three shifts with a minimum of two hour each shift, regardless of how long the route takes.

  • 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
  • 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
  • 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

This is a school schedule so no working on civic, winter, spring or summer school holidays Have all your weekends and holidays off.

Must have a class 4 drivers license or better or be willing to get the required driving license. Vulnerable sector check and clean driving abstract are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely transport children between home and school.
  • Drive in a safe manner and follow all the traffic and other laws set out by municipal, provincial and federal authorities.
  • Use exceptionally good judgement to ensure safety of passengers.
  • Maintain a clean driver's abstract. Report any infractions to your manager.
  • Be punctual and reliable for all scheduled pick up and drop offs.
  • Communicate via text to parents regarding your expected arrival daily. Texting must occur only when you are parked, prior to leaving current location.
  • Interact with parents, children and staff in a professional, respectful and kind manner at all times.
  • Keep track of and submit a kilometer's log that is accurate.
  • Work on gaining knowledge of the children you transport. Make each child's experience with school a positive one to encourage them to look forward to the trip to school
  • Report any incidences to the health and safety committee.
  • Follow the guidelines of the handbook and health and safety
  • Communicate information about absences, lates and other information to your supervisor.
  • Never leave children alone in the car. Parents will bring the child out to you.
  • Properly install and use car seats. Keep the car seat instruction manual in the car with you.
  • Keep a properly maintained and clean vehicle, free of any toxic or dangerous items, mechanical difficulties etc.
  • Ensure maintenance, seasonal change over, and inspections are completed based on organizational timelines and vehicle need.
  • Keep a roadside safety kit in your vehicle, contact numbers, blankets first aid kit, and a charged cell phone in case of emergencies.
