The Dietary Aide plays an important role in supporting residents' health, comfort, and quality of life by assisting with meal preparation, service, and sanitation. Through teamwork and attention to detail, this role helps ensure residents receive safe, nutritious meals in a welcoming dining environment.

Qualifications:

· Food Service Worker Certificate

· Food Handlers' Certificate required

· Grade 12 preferred

· Institutional Cooking experience is an asset

· Knowledge of Therapeutic and Texture Modified diets and Canada's Food Guide

· Knowledge and high standards of safety and sanitation practices

· Experience as a team member an asset

· Good health and fitness commensurate with the position (including standing, lifting, bending, and walking)

Areas of Responsibility:

· Responsible in assisting in all aspects of dietary services within the Home as required.

· Ensures teamwork, positive public relations and respect for all individuals occurs in all aspects of the position

· Provision of excellent service to residents, visitors, co-workers and physician, exhibiting courtesy, compassion and respect.

Functions:

  1. Assists Cook in the Dietary Department, in meeting the nutritional needs of the residents;

  2. Sets tables and prepares trays for meal service to residents;

  3. Prepares or assists in the preparation of meals and snacks to the residents;

  4. Adheres to LMH policies and procedures in accordance with facility needs, regulatory requirements and Supervisor guidelines;

  5. Ensures that preparation and pre-preparation work is complete;

  6. Serves meals and snacks to LMH residents;

  7. Maintains and promotes good relations with all departments;

  8. Ensures kitchen and other kitchen-related work areas and equipment are clean, restocked etc.;

  9. Implements resident diet orders as per Doctor and Dietitian directives;

  10. Adheres to safety and sanitation regulations;

  11. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities;

  12. Maintains awareness in current dietary practices and procedures by participating in continuing education conferences, workshops and seminars;

  13. Washes dishes and performs clean up duties following meals and snacks;

  14. Initiates activities and behaviours which identify pride in the workplace;

  15. Participates in the co-ordination of Meals on Wheels and Diners' Club program, depending upon the shift;

  16. Interacts tactfully, courteously, and calmly with staff, residents, families and visitors, while maintaining confidentiality;

  17. Utilizes material resources effectively;

Any other duties as required.
