Position Overview
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Geography Teacher to inspire students to understand the complex relationships between people, places, and the environment. The ideal candidate will create a dynamic and engaging learning environment that fosters critical thinking, spatial awareness, and a deep appreciation for the world's diverse cultures and physical landscapes. You will be responsible for developing curriculum, delivering impactful lessons, and assessing student progress in alignment with [state/national/international] standards.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons for courses such as World Geography, Physical Geography, Human Geography, AP Human Geography, or Environmental Science.
- Develop a curriculum that balances physical geography (landforms, climate, ecosystems) and human geography (population, culture, economic activity, urbanization).
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including project-based learning, GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technology, field studies, maps, and data analysis.
- Integrate current events, global issues (e.g., climate change, sustainability, globalization), and real-world case studies to make content relevant.
Assessment & Student Development:
- Design and administer assessments that effectively measure student learning and progress.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to students and maintain accurate records of grades and attendance.
- Identify and support the individual learning needs of all students, providing extra help or enrichment as needed.
- Foster a classroom culture of respect, curiosity, and intellectual risk-taking.
Professional & Community Engagement:
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues within the department and across disciplines.
- Participate actively in departmental meetings, school-wide events, and professional development opportunities.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
- Potentially lead or support extracurricular activities such as a Geography Club, Eco-Club, or academic competitions (e.g., Geography Bee).
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Geography, Education (with a geography specialization), or a closely related field.
- Valid state teaching certification/license for secondary geography or social studies (or equivalent for international schools).
- Proven ability to teach geography effectively to the relevant age group.
- Strong knowledge of both physical and human geography concepts.
- Proficiency with educational technology and a willingness to incorporate digital tools (e.g., Google Earth, ArcGIS Online) into instruction.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Geography, Education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography or International Baccalaureate (IB) Geography.
- Hands-on experience with GIS software or spatial analysis.
- Experience organizing field trips or outdoor educational experiences.
- A track record of contributing to a positive school community.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual
Pay: $56,789.00-$71,243.00 per year
