We're looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.Director, Medical Education Portfolio LeadPurposeMedical Education is a cornerstone of continuous professional development for healthcare professionals (HCPs) and a driver of improved patient outcomes. The Director of Medical Education is accountable for shaping and executing a best-in-class educational strategy for Canada, aligning withglobal objectives, while addressing local healthcare system needs. This leader will manage and develop a team of direct reports, ensuring high performance and career growth, while also directing anational portfolio of educational programs, fostering strategic collaborations, and ensuring operational and compliance excellence. The role requires a balance of visionary leadership, stakeholder engagement, and operational rigor, enabling impactful and innovative learning solutions that elevate knowledge, competence, and clinical practice in support of patient care.Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipDefine and implement the Canadian Medical Education (MedEd) strategy, aligned with global and affiliate priorities.Anticipate emerging educational needs by engaging with HCPs, medical societies, policy makers, and payers.Integrate innovative learning models (digital, hybrid, experiential) to increase reach, impact, and measurable outcomes.Portfolio Management & ExecutionLead the development, delivery, and evaluation of the national MedEd portfolio across therapeutic areas.Ensure timely, compliant, and impactful execution of programs, aligned to scientific priorities and unmet medical needs.Establish and track KPIs to measure educational effectiveness, HCP engagement, and downstream impact on patient care.Stakeholder Engagement & External InfluenceBuild and maintain trusted relationships with external stakeholders (societies, hospitals, academic centers, accreditation bodies, IMC, and Health Canada policy influencers).Represent the company in external forums, shaping policy and advancing standards in continuing health education.Partner with external experts, thought leaders, and technology providers to co-create cutting-edge educational offerings.Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with Business Units, Medical Affairs, and Global MedEd teams to ensure alignment and resource allocation.Actively contribute to affiliate leadership discussions, providing input into strategy, lifecycle management, and capability building.Drive shared learning and synergies across therapeutic areas and regional/global networks.Team Leadership & Capability BuildingLead, mentor, and directly manage a team of medical education professionals, with responsibility for their performance, development, and succession planning.Build a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.Recruit, onboard, and develop talent to strengthen functional expertise and ensure long-term organizational capability.Operational & Compliance ExcellenceOversee financial stewardship of a multi-million-dollar budget, ensuring transparent allocation and ROI.Ensure programs comply with industry codes (IMC, CME guidelines, legal/E&C;) and align with best practices in adult learning.Optimize processes, tools, and frameworks to enable scalability, efficiency, and knowledge sharing.QualificationsRequiredBachelor's degree in life sciences or healthcare; advanced degree (MBA, MSc, PharmD, MD, PhD) strongly preferred.7–10 years' experience in Medical Affairs/Medical Education within pharmaceutical/biotech.Minimum 3–5 years' experience leading direct reports with proven ability to build, inspire, and manage high-performing teams.Proven track record in designing and delivering impactful educational strategies and programs.Deep understanding of Canadian healthcare systems, regional payer dynamics, and HCP needs.Strong business acumen with experience managing complex budgets.Excellent communication, influence, and stakeholder management skills.Bilingual French/English preferred.PreferredCCPE certification in Continuing Health Education.Experience working in matrix/global environments.Familiarity with digital education platforms, data analytics, and innovative learning methodologies.Key CompetenciesStrategic and enterprise mindset with ability to connect global vision to local execution.Inspirational leadership with proven ability to manage direct reports and develop future leaders.External orientation with ability to build partnerships and shape policy.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with evidence of impact through metrics.Agility in navigating complex, fast-changing healthcare environments.Lilly is dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities to actively engage in the workforce, ensuring equal opportunities when vying for positions.
