Overview:

We are a Boutique Law Firm seeking an experienced and self-driven family lawyer to join our team under a fee-splitting arrangement. This is not a salaried position. Instead, we offer a 60/40 split of legal fees collected: 60% to the lawyer, 40% to the firm.

We maintain consistent advertising campaigns across Google, legal directories, and other online social media platforms that contribute to our visibility in the legal marketplace. However, incoming lawyers are expected to actively develop and grow their own client base. This position is ideal for a lawyer looking to build their practice with the support of an established law firm.

Responsibilities:

  • Handle family law matters from intake to final resolution, including negotiations, court appearances, and preparation of legal documents.
  • Appear before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice in matters under the Divorce Act, Family Law Act, and CLRA.
  • Maintain timely and accurate docketing and billing through PC Law.
  • Ensure full compliance with Law Society of Ontario regulations and firm policies.
  • Manage a broad spectrum of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, visitation rights, spousal support, and related matters.
  • Provide clear, strategic legal counsel to clients, guiding them through complex family law proceedings with confidence and clarity.
  • Draft comprehensive legal documents, including pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and court filings with precision and professionalism.
  • Negotiate favorable settlements on behalf of clients through effective negotiation strategies that prioritize their best interests.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution sessions with energetic advocacy.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on case strategy development and share insights to enhance overall team success.
  • Maintain meticulous case records and ensure compliance with all legal administrative requirements.

Requirements:

  • Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in family law practice.
  • Proven ability to manage files independently and advocate effectively in and out of court.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Speaking another language is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience in other areas of law are also considered an asset.
