Branch Information:
The Wildland Fire Management (WFM) branch contributes to the protection of people, property and the development of sustainable, fire resilient Yukon communities and infrastructure. WFM directly maintains and oversees the safe training and operational practices, and values natural ecological processes to ensure operational efficiency within the territory. WFM is the primary operational response branch for wildfires and floods within unincorporated areas of the Yukon.
About the Position:
The Meteorologist is responsible for interpreting and assessing meteorological data for fire weather, smoke management, prescribed burn and the related environmental impact assessments. The incumbent will maintain and upgrade weather data acquisition and programs and develop weather forecast products primarily for use by the Fire Management branch, but also for use by [MS1] others including geohazard experts and flood forecasters.

Essential Qualifications
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the following qualifications. Please note selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
- Degree in meteorology, atmospheric science or a combination of education and experience
- Experience working in wildfire (preferred), emergency management or other stressful and time-sensitive applications
Experience communicating technical information to a variety of technical and non-technical end users
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Suitability
Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
- Experience working as a wildland firefighter, Fire Behaviour Analyst or other role within the Operations Section of an incident management team
- Experience forecasting for areas with sparse or no observations.
- Training and experience in using the Incident Command System (ICS)
- Experience providing weather forecasts to a variety of user groups for mountainous areas
- Canadian Wildfire Courses: S-390, S-490, S-311/411
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
