Position Summary

At Macdonald's Home Health Care, the Junior Seating & Mobility Consultant (Co-Op Student) will gain hands-on experience supporting our Sales Team, clients, and healthcare professionals in a fast-paced healthcare environment. This position is ideal for a Kinesiology student interested in mobility, rehabilitation, adaptive equipment, or healthcare systems, and looking to gain practical experience in a professional healthcare environment.

During the Co‑Op term (8 months), the student will work closely with an experienced Seating & Mobility Consultant, gaining comprehensive exposure to both clinical and operational aspects of mobility and accessibility services. Learning opportunities include:

Clinical & Mobility Knowledge

  • Hands‑on exposure to a wide range of mobility equipment, including manual and power wheelchairs, seating systems, and adaptive devices.
  • Understanding functional mobility considerations and foundational seating principles such as posture, pressure management, and ergonomic positioning.
  • Observing how kinesiology principles are applied in real‑world rehabilitation and assistive technology contexts.

Sales & Funding Processes

  • Learning how mobility equipment is prescribed, justified, and funded within the BC healthcare system, including interactions with third‑party funders, government programs, and private pay clients.
  • Gaining insight into how quotes, product selections, and clinical recommendations intersect with funding criteria and client needs.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Exposure to collaborative workflows involving clinicians (OTs and PTs), technicians, sales consultants, and administrative staff.
  • Understanding how clinical recommendations translate into equipment setup, modifications, and delivery.

Client Interaction & Communication

  • Developing professional communication skills through interactions with clients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
  • Learning how to gather client information, interpret functional needs, and communicate clearly across departments.

Operational & Technical Insight

  • Observing equipment assembly processes and working directly with service technicians to understand how mobility devices are configured, adjusted, and maintained.
  • Gaining experience with CRM or inventory systems, lead management tools, and internal workflow processes used to track orders and approvals.

Professional Development

  • Participation in team meetings to learn about case discussions, product updates, and workflow improvements.
  • Building practical workplace skills such as prioritization, organization, documentation accuracy, and cross‑functional communication.
  • Exposure to the broader role of kinesiology within healthcare organizations, including how knowledge of biomechanics, human movement, and ergonomics supports mobility‑focused programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Kinesiology Co-Op or internship program
  • Strong interest in mobility, rehabilitation, ergonomics, or assistive technology
  • Microsoft Office knowledge, computer software, and internet proficiency 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Team-oriented and dependable with a strong work ethic 
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
